Pros react to Greg Hardy defeating Yorgan De Castro at UFC 249

Yorgan De Castro and Greg Hardy squared off in a heavyweight bout at tonight’s UFC 249 event in Florida. The former Dallas Cowboys player has experienced mixed results in MMA, such as his disqualification loss to Allen Crowder in his UFC debut. He bounced back with two knockout wins against Juan Adams and Dmitri Smoliakov. In his last two performances, Greg Hardy received a no-contest against Ben Sosoli and a unanimous-decision loss against Alexander Volkov in November 2019.

The former Dallas Cowboy, Hardy (5-2 MMA) enters tonight’s event looking to rebound, this after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Alexander Volkov in his most recent effort. That setback snapped Hardy’s 3-fight unbeaten streak and sent the controversial fighter back to the drawing board.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum returned to the Octagon at tonight’s UFC 249 event for a bout with Aleksei Oleinik. Werdum (23-8-1 MMA) had not competed since suffering a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov in March of 2018. Following his setback to Volkov, the Brazilian submission specialist was flagged by USADA for the banned substance Trenbolone and received a two-year suspension.

A welterweight scrap between fan favorites Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC 249 prelims from Florida. Cerrone (36-14 MMA) entered tonight’s highly anticipated event looking to snap a three-fight losing skid. In his most recent effort at UFC 246, ‘Cowboy’ had suffered a knockout loss to Conor McGregor in just 40-seconds.

The Octagon returns to Florida this evening for UFC 249, an 11-bout fight card headlined by a interim lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje on Tony Ferguson. Ferguson was initially slated to compete against reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at the event. However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, ‘The Eagle‘ was grounded in Russia forcing the UFC to turn to Gaethje.

Youtube sensation turned fighter, Jake Paul claims he will smash Dillon Danis in a bout and will have Jorge Masvidal in his corner. Paul entered the boxing circuit earlier this year when he knocked out fellow Youtuber AnEsonGib, in the 1st round. He claimed he was ready to avenge his brother’s loss, Logan Paul vs KSI, but now Jake Paul has found fresh meat. He wants to defeat Conor McGregor’s training partner and Bellator star, Dillon Danis.
Uriah Hall issues statement after UFC 249 fight with Jacare Souza gets cancelled

Uriah Hall will no longer be fighting Jacare Souza at UFC 249, this after the former Strikeforce middleweight champion tested positive for Covid-19. The unfortunate news broke earlier this evening as ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto reported that a member of Jacare’s family had previously tested positive for Covid-19 and he disclosed this information when checking in with the UFC on Wednesday. Jacare was then administered the test and proceed to isolate. This evening the test results came back positive and he was pulled from the UFC 249 fight card.

Earlier tonight unfortunate news broke that middleweight standout Jacare Souza had tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced out of his UFC 249 fight with Uriah Hall. According to a report from ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, a member of Jacare’s family had previously tested positive for Covid-19 and he disclosed this information when checking in with the UFC on Wednesday. Jacare took the test and was then isolated. This evening the test results came back positive and he was pulled from the UFC 249 fight card.
Gilbert Burns offers to step up to 185lbs and fight Uriah Hall on short notice at UFC 249

UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns has offered to step up on short notice at 185lbs and take on Uriah Hall at UFC 249 after Ronaldo Souza was pulled from the event. Souza was forced off the card on Friday night after he tested positive for coronavirus. He was set to fight Hall on the ESPN portion of the preliminary card. The UFC has not said if Hall will stay on the card against a short-notice opponent or if he will be pulled from it. In the event he stays on the card, the UFC matchmakers have a willing opponent in Burns.
Report | Jacare Souza was the only UFC 249 athlete to test positive for COVID-19

The worst-case scenario happened for the UFC as it was revealed Jacare Souza has tested positive for COVID-19. The good news is that the other 23 fighters had their tests come back negative. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported on social media that Souza has left the fighter hotel after testing positive but no other fighters have the virus.

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya called Dana White a “little b*tch” in response to the recent comments made by the UFC president. De La Hoya recently said he would be open to a two-round boxing match against UFC superstar Conor McGregor, and White was not happy about those comments. Although De La Hoya recently commended the UFC bossman for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, he didn’t like the remarks White made about him following the callout of McGregor.

Conor McGregor doesn’t appear to be too interested in fighting without a crowd. McGregor has been adamant of having three fights in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic that may not happen. Although the Irishman has hinted at a summertime return, according to UFC president, Dana White, the former champ-champ doesn’t like the idea of competing without a crowd but would understand if that’s what he had to do.
