UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards says he is promised a welterweight title shot with a win over Tyron Woodley at UFC London. Edwards is set to take on Woodley in a potential No. 1 contender’s fight at UFC London in March. UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman does not have an opponent booked yet, although Jorge Masvidal appears to have the fast track to the next title shot. According to Edwards himself, however, it could be he who ends up fighting Usman next.

The welterweight champion, Usman, squared off with his bitter rival Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 245 on Saturday December 14th. The elite wrestler’s utilized a different part of their MMA skillset, battling it out in a striking war for the better part of five rounds. Both fighters delivered impressive performances, but Usman used his striking accuracy and power to overthrow his opponent. He finished Covington by TKO in the final minute of round five and successfully defended his welterweight title for the first time with the win.

At this point, Edwards has accepted the matchup, and he is just waiting for Woodley to accept it.

Tyron Woodley was dominated in that fight and admitted he did not look like himself. But, given the fight was not that competitive, him getting a rematch may be out of the question.

With Edwards’ recent surge, and Covington’s internal battle with the UFC going on, the 28-year-old is staking his claim at the title shot over the brash Covington.
