After Usman TKO’d Colby Covington at UFC 245 to defend his welterweight belt for the first time, many thought his next opponent would be Jorge Masvidal. Yet, negotiations stalled leaving Burns to step up and take the fight.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards isn’t happy with the latest UFC rankings following Tyron Woodley’s loss last weekend. Edwards was scheduled to fight Woodley in the main event of UFC London earlier this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the bout fell apart. Instead, “T-Wood” went on to face Gilbert Burns in a losing effort at the UFC Apex last Saturday night.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards took a jab at Tyron Woodley following his unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC Fight Night Las Vegas. Edwards was originally set to fight Woodley at UFC London before that card was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Burns ended up getting the fight against Woodley two months later and made the most of his opportunity when he won a lopsided unanimous decision over the former UFC welterweight champion.

Colby Covington offered to fill in against Woodley at the last minute on a relocated card on US soil, but Dana White was forced to cancel the event altogether.

It would have been his first Octagon appearance since losing his 170-pound title in 2019 to Kamaru Usman. However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the UFC recently announced its decision to postpone its upcoming shows in London, Columbus and Portland.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards has released a statement on the cancelation of UFC London, calling it “truly heartbreaking.” The Brit was set to headline the event across from rival Tyron Woodley, but neither man will be able to put on a show now after Edwards was forced to withdraw from the event due to the coronavirus outbreak. Numerous other fights on the card have been canceled, and while the UFC has not scrapped the event yet, it may have no choice but to do so at this point in time.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards has withdrawn from the new UFC London card, and numerous other fighters have been pulled from the event. The coronavirus outbreak has led to the majority of sporting events in the world being canceled, but the UFC remains the lone outlier. After hosting UFC Brasilia without a crowd on Saturday, the promotion still plans on holding the UFC London card next Saturday. The UFC is currently in plans to relocate the London card to somewhere in the United States, leaving fighters like Edwards on the out looking in due to the UK travel ban.

Last March at UFC London, Till was the main event against Jorge Masvidal while Edwards was the co-main against Gunnar Nelson. Yet, during the press conference, it was the two Englishman going back-and-forth in trash-talking one another. Edwards admits that was the fight he would’ve rather had.
