UFC Vegas 27 rankings update: Jack Hermansson, Carla Esparza among fighters moving up the ranks

Following UFC Vegas 27, the UFC’s rankings have been updated, with Jack Hermansson and Carla Esparza among the fighters moving up the ranks. Hermansson opened up the main card with a unanimous decision win over Edmen Shahbazyan. The UFC rankings panelists were impressed by what Hermansson did in the fight and he has moved up the promotion’s official rankings as a result, as “The Joker” is now ranked at No. 6 at middleweight, with Darren Till dropping down to the No. 7 spot.

Hermansson is coming off a decision loss to Marvin Vettori, in a fight Hermansson was scheduled to face Darren Till and then Kevin Holland. Early on in the fight, the Swede broke his orbital which he says impacted him greatly in the fight.

A pivotal middleweight bout between Edmen Shahbazyan and Jack Hermansson will not happen this Saturday at UFC 262. Multiple sources informed BJPENN.com’s Cole Shelton and Adam Martin the fight is off UFC 262 and postponed one week to UFC Vegas 27 on May 22. It’s expected to serve as the co-main event. MMA reporter, Marcell Dorff was the first to report the news.

Jack Hermansson says he’s the hardest matchup for UFC champion Israel Adesanya at 185lbs, saying “His bottom game is definitely not the best.” Hermansson returns to the Octagon next Saturday at UFC 262 against Edmen Shahbazyan in a fight between two top-15 middleweights coming off of tough losses. Hermansson dropped a decision to Marvin Vettori back in December, and Vettori is now fighting for the belt. As for Shahbazyan, he lost to top contender Derek Brunson the last time we saw him. This matchup next weekend at UFC 262 is an important one for both men in the stacked UFC middleweight division, especially if they continue to have title aspirations at 185lbs.

UFC middleweight Marvin Vettori revealed the facial injuries from the Jack Hermansson fight feel “like he had a knife in his glove.” Vettori and Hermansson set a UFC record for the most combined significant strikes landed in a middleweight fight ever. Both men went to the well, taking the fight into deep waters and trying to get the knockout with every last swing. Ultimately at the end of 25 minutes, Vettori was given the nod by the judges on the scorecards. It was a close and competitive fight and both men landed some good shots, but Vettori landed the more significant strikes, including a big knockdown in the first round.

Middleweights Jack Hermansson and Marvin Vettori were named bonus winners following UFC Vegas 16, winning $50,000 for “Fight of the Night.” Hermansson and Vettori went to war for 25 minutes. Both men threw the kitchen sink at each other, setting a record for most combined significant strikes landed in a UFC middleweight bout. At the end of the five rounds, the judges sided with Vettori, scoring the bout 49-46, 49-46, and 49-45 in favor of the Italian middleweight contender. Vettori now figures to earn himself a top-five spot in the UFC middleweight ranks with the win.

UFC middleweight contender Jack Hermansson issued a statement following his unanimous decision loss to Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 16. Hermansson and Vettori met in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Vegas 16 card. The two middleweights traded shots and grappling exchanges for 25 minutes as they went the distance in one of the best fights of the year. Both men proved in the battle that they are two of the best in the world at 185lbs, but Vettori proved to be a little sharper as he won a closely-fought decision. Although Hermansson lost the fight, it was an awesome battle.

UFC Vegas 16 weigh-in results: Headliners on point, co-headliner misses weight

On Saturday night, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will return to our screens with the under-the-radar UFC Vegas 16 card out of the promotion’s Apex facility. The card was originally expected to be headlined by a middleweight fight between Jack Hermansson and Darren Till. When Till was forced off the card, Hermansson accepted a short notice fight with Kevin Holland, who was ultimately also forced off the card after testing positive for COVID-19. The UFC then made a third attempt at finding Hermansson an opponent, matching him up with Marvin Vettori, who had originally been scheduled to fight Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza next weekend. The third time seems to have been the charm.
