McGregor and Poirier first fought in the featherweight division in 2014, with the former winning by first-round knockout. Since then, however, the two men have both enjoyed massive success in the lightweight division, and have recently been linked to a rematch.

On Tuesday, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov reflected on the night he defeated his arch rival, Conor McGregor, in the Octagon. Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor via fourth-round submission on October 6, 2018, in the main event of the blockbuster UFC 229 pay-per-view. Tuesday was the two-year anniversary of that victory.

First off, most fighters can only fight for the one promotion that has them under contract. Second off, most promotions can cut their fighters at any time. And third and most important, but fighter pay in MMA is just not what it needs to be when you compare the pay in MMA to boxing and other pro sports.
