Javier Mendez has revealed that Cain Velasquez is back home at the American Kickboxing Academy. The former UFC heavyweight champion has had a rough few years to put it lightly. Velasquez last competed in February 2019, facing Francis Ngannou. In that outing, ‘The Predator’ defeated the former champion by first-round knockout. Following the loss, Velasquez opted to retire.

A judge has ruled that the man accused of molesting Cain Velasquez’s son will stand trial, according to MMA Junkie. Back in February 2022, 44-year-old Harry Goularte was charged with one felony count of lewd acts with a minor under the age of 14. The victim in question was Cain Velasquez Jr., the son of the former UFC heavyweight champion, when he was four years of age.

If he is found guilty of attempted murder he faces a minimum of 20 years and up to life in prison, with additional time being added for the other charges, if found guilty.

UFC President Dana White sent the judge of the Santa Clara Superior Court a letter supporting former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Velasquez (14-3 MMA) was arrested in California on charges of attempted murder back in February. The 39-year-old was reportedly chasing after and shooting at Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting Cain’s 4-year-old son. During the chaos Velasquez accidently shot another passenger of Harry’s vehicle in the arm. The former heavyweight champion was later arrested and could now face up to twenty years in prison for his actions.

The former lightweight kingpin does not believe Velasquez is a danger to society and does believe he should have been granted bail. Cain has been in prison for months now, the courts not granting him bail following his arrest for allegedly shooting Paul Bender in March of this year. Velasquez was involved in a high speed chase and was targeting Harry Goularte, a suspected child pedophile, when he accidentally shot Paul Bender who was also in the vehicle.
