In the main event of UFC 291, the vacant BMF title was up for grabs as Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier were set for their highly-anticipated rematch. Gaethje entered the fight coming off a majority decision win over Rafael Fiziev back in March to return to the win column. In the fight prior, he lost to Charles Oliveira for the lightweight belt.

Dustin Poirier has a reason as to why he is frustrated with his UFC 291 loss to Justin Gaethje. Poirier entered his UFC 291 headliner against Gaethje for the BMF title coming off a submission win over Michael Chandler. ‘The Diamond’ also entered the bout with a ton of confidence given he had already beat Gaethje by TKO back in 2018. However, in the rematch, it was Gaethje who got his hand raised as he scored a second-round head kick KO.

In the main event of UFC 291, Justin Gaethje scored a head-kick KO win over Dustin Poirier in the second round to become the new BMF champion. After the result, McGregor took to social media to claim he would KO Gaethje with one shot and stated that he was the real BMF, not Gaethje or Poirier.
