Jennifer Maia is hoping to “surprise the world” when she fights UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 255. Maia was granted the title shot against Shevchenko after pulling off an incredible submission victory over former top contender Joanne Calderwood over the summer. The UFC matched Maia up against the champ Shevchenko, and they will fight in the co-headliner of UFC 255 on November 21 in Las Vegas. The oddsmakers aren’t giving Maia much of a chance in this fight, as the Brazilian is listed as a massive betting underdog.

UFC legend Randy Couture says that Jon Jones winning the heavyweight title “erases any argument” about his status in the GOAT discussion. Couture is one of the all-time greats himself. The UFC Hall of Famer, who is now age 57 and retired, is universally regarded as one of the top-10 pound-for-pound fighters of all time. He was a six-time UFC champion who won titles at both light heavyweight and heavyweight. As time has gone on, Couture’s name has slipped a bit in the P4P rankings. At one point, he was in the discussion for No. 1, but now it’s fair to say he’s top-10.

The full betting odds have been released for the 12 fights scheduled to take place at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39: Hall vs. Silva event. The main event sees middleweight striker Uriah Hall take on UFC legend Anderson Silva in the final fight of Silva’s career. Hall has been an inconsistent performer over his years in the Octagon, but he has looked to be in top form as of late, winning three of his last four fights. As for Silva, he is now 45 and coming off of two straight losses, including a leg injury TKO to Jared Cannonier in May 2019. It remains to be seen what he has left.

Silva will go down as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, but he is no longer the consensus GOAT. After starting his UFC career with 16 straight wins — which is still a company record to this day — Silva has gone 1-6, 1 NC as he’s struggled in the limelight of his career to get his hand raised. Since defeating Stephan Bonner in 2012, Silva’s only win is a controversial decision over Derek Brunson, with a No Contest against Nick Diaz.

Cory Sandhagen hopes to be the backup fighter for the UFC 256 bantamweight title fight between champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling. Sandhagen is coming off of an incredible win as he was able to knock out the No. 1 contender Marlon Moraes with a spinning wheel kick and punches on Fight Island earlier this month. Sandhagen was able to bounce back nicely after a surprisingly-quick loss to Sterling back at UFC 250 in June and the win over Moraes cements his place in the top-five of the weight class. He isn’t far away from a title shot at this point.

Filho, the former WEC middleweight champion, recently spoke to Marcelo Alonso of Sherdog.com. The 42-year-old Filho said that he himself fought days after the death of his own father, and he said he was moved by what Nurmagomedov did at UFC 252, defeating Justin Gaethje in the wake of his father Abdulmanap’s death from COVID-19.
