Jose Aldo retires from MMA competition, granted UFC release

Jose Aldo is riding off into the sunset as far as pro MMA competition is concerned. The surefire UFC Hall of Famer has retired from the sport of MMA. Combate was the first to report the news. MMAFighting later followed up to confirm Aldo’s exit. It was also noted that Aldo’s team worked with the UFC to grant him a release.
Chito Vera responds to callout from Cory Sandhagen at UFC Vegas 60

Marlon “Chito” Vera was in attendance for Cory Sandhagen’s victory over Song Yadong at UFC Vegas 60 and he has responded to a callout. Sandhagen and Yadong went one-on-one inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 17. A slicing elbow through the eyebrow of Yadong caused a nasty cut that would eventually decide the fight before the fifth round could begin. The doctor called the fight off after observing the cut, and Sandhagen was awarded the fourth-round TKO.

Song Yadong has spoken out following his TKO defeat to Cory Sandhagen. Yadong and Sandhagen shared the Octagon inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bantamweight collision headlined UFC Vegas 60 on September 17.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 60 event, a thirteen-bout fight card headlined by Cory Sandhagen vs. Song Yadong. Tonight’s men’s bantamweight main event proved to be the back and forth war most fans and analysts were expecting. Song Yadong possessed a clear power edge but it was diversity of strikes from Cory Sandhagen that proved to be the difference. ‘Sandman’ was able to utilize some crafty elbows and knees to open up a nasty cut on Yadong. As the fight went on the cut grew worse and officials decided they had seen enough by the end of round four.

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 60 event is headlined by a key bantamweight contest featuring Cory Sandhagen taking on Song Yadong. Sandhagen (14-4 MMA), 30, will be looking to snap a two-fight losing skid this evening. ‘Sandman’ was defeated by Petr Yan (16-3 MMA) by unanimous decision last October at UFC 267. Prior to that, he lost to T.J. Dillashaw (17-4 MMA) in July of 2021.

Chael Sonnen believes Curtis Blaydes is the toughest fight for Jon Jones at heavyweight. For years now, the talk of Jones moving up to heavyweight has been prominent but the former UFC light heavyweight champion has made it known he is bulking up for his debut. When he will fight at heavyweight is still uncertain, but when he does it seems likely he will face Francis Ngannou or Stipe Miocic. However, for former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen, he thinks Curtis Blaydes is the toughest challenge for ‘Bones’ at heavyweight, not Miocic or Ngannou.

St-Pierre (26-2 MMA), a former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, faced a plethora of high profile names throughout his storied mixed martial arts career. His list of prior opponents includes legends such as Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Jake Shields, Michael Bisping and Matt Serra, just to name a few.

Mickey Gall has claimed that he has not been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, contrary to recent reports. Mixed martial arts fans were first introduced to Mickey Gall way back in 2016 when he was lined up as the man to welcome CM Punk into the UFC. After submitting the former WWE champion in just over two minutes, Gall went on to defeat Sage Northcutt before a frustrating 3-5 run that ended in a quick TKO loss to Mike Malott back in April.

Sandhagen has not fought since last October when he suffered a decision loss to Petr Yan for the interim bantamweight title. After the loss, he wanted some time off and will now headline UFC Vegas 60 on Saturday against Song Yadong. Although it’s not the fight he expected, Sandhagen believes Yadong is a tough challenge and that is why he’s so excited about the fight.

Mike Perry is hoping to fight Nate Diaz in BKFC. David Feldman, the president of BKFC, recently came out and said he is interested in signing Nate Diaz. The Stockton, native, of course, recently fought out his Ultimate Fighting Championship deal at UFC 279 when he submitted Tony Ferguson. The goal for Feldman is to sign Diaz and have him fight Mike Perry.

Louis Cosce will finally be returning to the Octagon. Cosce made his UFC debut at UFC 255 in November of 2020, where he suffered a third-round TKO loss to Sasha Palatnikov. Since then, Cosce finally decided to address a shoulder issue and later got COVID which has kept him out of the Octagon for nearly two years.
