Stipe Miocic should get immediate trilogy fight against Francis Ngannou, confident he'd "get his belt back," says teammate

Cole Shelton - June 14, 2021

Aleksa Camur, a longtime teammate of Stipe Miocic is confident the former heavyweight champ can reclaim his title. At UFC 260, Miocic lost by second-round KO to Francis Ngannou to lose his heavyweight title. Although he got finished, he had moments in the fight and even rocked Ngannou. With that, Camur says Miocic deserves the trilogy bout, but if not, a scrap against Jon Jones makes sense.

Georges St-Pierre explains why it would "be a mistake" for Jon Jones to accept fight with Stipe Miocic

Adam D Martin - June 4, 2021

UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre explained why it would “be a mistake” for Jon Jones to accept a heavyweight fight against Stipe Miocic. Jones has been involved in a messy public contract negotiation with the UFC for the last few months concerning a superfight against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The original plan was for Jones to fight Ngannou for the heavyweight belt, but when Jones asked for a number too rich for the UFC, the promotion decided to give the title shot to Derrick Lewis instead. With Jones now on the outside looking in, UFC president Dana White has suggested he fight the former champ Miocic, but Jones has said he’s not interested.

Although Ngannou is likely to face Derrick Lewis next, Miocic says he wants the trilogy fight as he knows he can get the win.

Stipe Miocic hoping for Francis Ngannou trilogy by early 2022: "I really would love to fight Francis again for the rematch"

Adam D Martin - May 26, 2021

Stipe Miocic is hoping for the Francis Ngannou trilogy by early 2022, saying “I really would love to fight Francis again for the rematch.” Miocic lost the UFC heavyweight title in March at UFC 260 when he was brutally knocked out by Ngannou in the pair’s rematch. The fight was one-sided for Ngannou and so Miocic won’t get an immediate rematch despite the fact that he dominated Ngannou the first time they fought in 2018. Instead of Miocic being granted the rematch, the UFC has given the next title shot against Ngannou to Derrick Lewis, and the two will likely meet this summer.

During that same interview White suggested that former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic could be next for Jon Jones.

Stipe Miocic vs. Jon Jones is possible, says Dana White

Adam D Martin - May 11, 2021

UFC president Dana White says a matchup between former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and former 205lbs kingpin Jon Jones is possible. Miocic recently lost his belt when he was knocked out by Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in March, but he remains one of the top heavyweights in the sport and has given no indication yet that he will be retiring despite the brutal KO loss. Ngannou is currently set to take on Derrick Lewis in a rematch that marks his first title defense, which means that Jones — who was originally set to fight the winner of Ngannou vs. Lewis — is currently on the sidelines waiting for a fight to be booked. With both Miocic and Jones both without opponents and with both men looking to fight for the heavyweight belt, a matchup with them is possible.

Adam D Martin - April 12, 2021

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou praised referee Herb Dean for his stoppage in the Stipe Miocic rematch that took place at UFC 260. Ngannou knocked Miocic down in the second round with a powerful punch that saw the former champ fall to the canvas in a scary fashion as his leg was bent backward. Thankfully, Dean was able to rush in and stop the fight, but not after Ngannou landed a huge hammer fist on his downed opponent that knocked him out cold. Some fans were critical of Dean as they believed that he way late in stopping the fight, but as far as Ngannou goes — the man who knows better than anyone — Dean did a good job.

Derek Brunson suggests Stipe Miocic move to 205lbs

Adam D Martin - March 29, 2021

UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson suggested that former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic make the move down to light heavyweight. Miocic was knocked out in brutal fashion by Francis Ngannou in a failed bid to capture the title in the main event of UFC 260. After surviving a tough first round, Ngannou finished the job in the second with heavy strikes. What was interesting about this fight was the weight difference. Ngannou tipped the scales at 263lbs, while Miocic weighed in at just 234lbs, which was far lighter than the 246lbs that he came in during the first fight at UFC 220. The low weight of 234lbs has led some to wonder if he could potentially even cut down to 205.

Adam D Martin - March 28, 2021

The wife of former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic shared an update following his KO loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. Miocic suffered an absolutely brutal loss when Ngannou finished him in the second round of their UFC 260 main event fight with punches to become the new UFC heavyweight champion. The Cleveland native was unable to muster any offense in the fight with his striking, and his wrestling was ineffective, as well, leading to a tough matchup for him. Although Miocic won the first meeting between these two at UFC 220 in January 2018, the fight went a completely different way this time around, with Ngannou winning by KO.
