UFC flyweight Katlyn Chookagian has issued a response to a critic who suggested she is just a point fighter. Chookagian fought for the fourth time in 2020 this past weekend and managed to comprehensively defeat Cynthia Calvillo via unanimous decision. The win took her record this year to 2-2 and 2-1 since her Flyweight Championship defeat to Valentina Shevchenko back in February. Unfortunately, her performance was not particularly popular among fans.
Anderson Silva criticizes Dana White and the UFC "after an attempt to force my retirement"

UFC legend Anderson Silva criticized UFC president Dana White and the world’s top MMA promotion “after an attempt to force my retirement.” Silva suffered a knockout loss to Uriah Hall at UFC Vegas 12 on Halloween and after the fight, White said that the UFC would not be offering him another fight. Indeed, Silva has since then been formally released by the promotion. White has gone on record saying that he believes that the 45-year-old Silva should hang up his gloves and retire. However, “The Spider” has not made up his mind either way and ultimately it’s his choice to make.
Jennifer Maia releases statement following loss to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 255

Women’s flyweight contender Jennifer Maia released a statement following her unanimous decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 255. Maia proved to be a worthy adversary for the champion as she managed to go the full 25-minute distance against Shevchenko, even taking the second rounds on the judges’ scorecards. Ultimately, though, Maia dropped a 49-46 unanimous decision on all three judges’ scorecards, with Shevchenko once again defending the UFC women’s flyweight title. Win the win, Shevchenko moved to 6-0 at 125lbs, while Maia is 3-3 in the UFC.
Cody Garbrandt reveals his symptoms following battle with COVID-19

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt revealed his symptoms following a tough recent battle with COVID-19 and other injuries. Garbrandt was supposed to make his flyweight debut this weekend against Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event of UFC 255. However, the fan-favorite was forced to pull out of the fight due to tearing his bicep. Since then, we haven’t heard much from Garbrandt in regards to how he’s feeling and when he’s ready to return to the Octagon. But this weekend he finally broke his silence and explained what he’s still dealing with.

UFC women’s flyweight contender Cynthia Calvillo released a statement following her unanimous decision loss to Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 255. Calvillo was a heavy favorite to defeat Chookagian according to the oddsmakers, but the fight proven to be a tough matchup for her. Calvillo was not able to get the fight to the floor and instead she was picked apart at range by Chookagian en route to a decision loss. Although Calvillo is still one of the top-ranked flyweights in the UFC, the loss to Chookagian was a big setback, especially coming off such a big win over Jessica Eye.
Greg Hardy vs. Marcin Tybura added to UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Chimaev undercard

A heavyweight bout between Greg Hardy and Marcin Tybura has been added to the upcoming UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Chimaev undercard. The UFC revealed the complete 13-fight bout order for UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Chimaev, which is scheduled to take place on December 19 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Many of the fights announced were previously revealed, but one surprise was the Hardy vs. Tybura fight. The two heavyweights will clash on the main card of this event.

The opening betting odds have dropped for the upcoming UFC flyweight title fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno at UFC 256. Figueiredo submitted Alex Perez in the main event of UFC 255 on Saturday, while Moreno took care of business with a first-round TKO over Brandon Royval. Following the event, UFC president Dana White made the surprise announcement that Figueiredo vs. Moreno will both be booked for a quick turnaround when they meet each other at UFC 256.

UFC legend Shogun Rua released a statement following his TKO loss to Paul Craig at UFC 255, admitting he is considering retirement from MMA. In the opening fight on the UFC 255 pay-per-view main card, Rua suffered the sixth loss of his career by TKO in a devastating fashion. After a somewhat competitive first round, Craig took Rua down and rained down punches in the second round, forcing the legend to tap to strikes. It was a vicious finish and it’s the kind of violent stoppage that made UFC president Dana White comment that he hopes Rua considers finally retiring from MMA.

UFC welterweight Mike Perry reacted following his unanimous decision loss to Tim Means on the main card on Saturday’s UFC 255 pay-per-view. Perry took on Means, who filled in on short notice for the injured Robbie Lawler, in a high-profile bout at UFC 255. Heading into the fight, the story was mostly about Perry and his corner, which featured his pregnant girlfriend Latory Gonzalez and an old friend, this coming after Perry took to social media to try and sell his corner spot. As well, the story heading into the fight concerned Perry’s brutal weight cut, which saw him miss weight.
Petr Yan vs. Aljamain Sterling reportedly off UFC 256, postponed until 2021

The upcoming main event at UFC 256 between UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling has reportedly been postponed until 2021. Yan vs. Sterling was set to headline UFC 256 on December 12 in Las Vegas in the wake of an injury to UFC women’s featherweight champion Amanda Nunes, whose title defense against Megan Anderson fell apart. However, it looks like Yan and Sterling won’t get a chance to fight before the year is up. According to Russian news outlet TASS, Yan vs. Sterling is reportedly off of UFC 256 and the fight has been postponed until 2021.

UFC president Dana White explained why lightweight Tony Ferguson was booked against Charles Oliveira instead of Michael Chandler at UFC 256. We knew that Ferguson was champing at the bit to get in the Octagon before the year was up, and it seemed for a while that Chandler was going to be his opponent. However, the UFC surprised everyone when it was announced this week that Ferguson would instead be fighting top-ranked contender Charles Oliveira instead. The fight will now take place on the UFC 256 main card, with the winner surely figuring himself into title contention at 155lbs.

UFC women’s flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko released a statement after her victory over Jennifer Maia in the co-main event of UFC 255. Though it was far from her best performance inside the Octagon, Shevchenko was able to get the job done and earn a unanimous decision over Maia at UFC 255. Aside from a tough second round where the champ was taken down and controlled on the ground, it was mostly smooth sailing for Shevchenko. She improved to a perfect 6-0 in the women’s flyweight division following the decision victory over Maia on Saturday night’s card.

MMA coach Marc Montoya had to pop in the shoulder of Brandon Royval after he suffered an injury TKO loss to Brandon Moreno at UFC 255. Royval took on Moreno in the featured prelim of UFC 255, with the winner of the fight getting a title shot against the winner of the main event between Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez. Moreno was favored to defeat Royval, but after he beat Tim Elliott and Kai Kara-France as an underdog in his first two UFC bouts, Royval was a savvy underdog pick by many bettors to take out Moreno. Unfortunately for Royval, he suffered an injury loss.

UFC welterweight James Krause responded to the callout of a fight presented to him by viral knockout artist Joaquin Buckley at UFC 255. Buckley became a viral sensation all over the world when his incredible spinning back kick KO over Impa Kasanganay made jaws drop everywhere. Trying to capitalize on Buckley’s newfound fame, the UFC matched him up against prospect Jordan Wright at UFC 255. In what was Buckley’s second straight “Performance of the Night,” he finished Wright with punches in the second round to improve to 2-1 overall since joining the UFC this year.

UFC president Dana White hopes that former light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua will retire following his TKO loss to Paul Craig at UFC 255. In November 2019, Rua and Craig met at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs. Jacare and fought to a rare split draw in an excellent fight. Since then, Craig has picked up a submission win over Gadzhimurad Antigulov while Rua defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. With both men fighting and winning this past July on the UFC Fight Island: Whittaker vs. Till card, it made sense to match them up for a rematch before 2020 was over.
Deiveson Figueiredo reacts after being snubbed of a performance bonus at UFC 255

UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo was not thrilled that he was snubbed of a 50k “Performance of the Night” bonus award at UFC 255. Figueiredo defended the 125lbs belt for the first time since winning it over Joseph Benavidez on Fight Island when he took on Alex Perez in the main event of UFC 255. Though some were predicting that Perez could stylistically defeat Figueiredo with his wrestling, it turns out Figueiredo wasn’t having any of that. Soon after the fight hit the ground, Figueiredo was able to lock Perez up in a guillotine choke and finish him.

Dana White was thoroughly impressed by Deiveson Figeuiredo’s first round submission victory over Alex Perez in the main event of UFC 255. Figueiredo (20-1 MMA) had captured the promotions vacant flyweight title this past July on Fight Island when he scored a first round submission victory over Joseph Benavidez.

The octagon remained in Las Vegas for tonight’s UFC 255 event, a 12-bout fight card headlined by Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Alex Perez. The highly anticipated men’s flyweight title bout did not last long. Figueiredo was able to lock up an arm-in guillotine in the early moments of the opening round and after a slight adjustment of his grip forced Perez to tapout.
