With TJ Dillashaw out vs. Cory Sandhagen, UFC looking at Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson as new UFC Vegas 26 main event

UFC Vegas 26 is going to have a new main event. As of right now, it looks to be a top strawweight clash between Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson. It was revealed on Tuesday that former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was going to have to put his comeback on hold. A headbutt in training caused a nasty laceration over his right eye forcing his removal from his fight with Cory Sandhagen. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani now reports that Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson is likely to be the new headliner of the May 8 UFC event.

On Tuesday evening, it was reported that Dillashaw was out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury. The hope was to reschedule the scrap for a later date, and shortly after the news broke, Dillashaw took to social media to reveal he’s out of the fight due to a cut.

TJ Dillashaw will not be making the walk the Octagon on May 8. In the main event of UFC Vegas 26, Dillashaw was set to return from a two-year USADA suspension to take on rising contender, Cory Sandhagen. It was a very intriguing bantamweight bout with the winner likely getting the next title shot. It was also set to be Dillashaw’s first fight since he lost to Henry Cejudo by TKO for the flyweight title before being suspended.

Paul, the brash YouTuber who turned professional boxer, has taken the combat sports world by storm after his KO win over Nate Robinson. His popularity only grew with his recent KO win over Ben Askren on April 17. Since then, he has been continuing to call out MMA fighters and he says he is doing so because it is a massive draw and the fact he believes he is just better.

Jorge Masvidal says he belives that UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will defeat Colby Covington in their rematch. Usman smashed Masvidal in their own rematch to retain the UFC welterweight title. Usman not only outwrestled Masvidal, but he also outstruck him on the feet and then scored the knockout blow in the second round. Usman also knocked out Covington previously when they fought at UFC 245 in December 2019. It was an exceptional performance by Usman that night as well, though there was some controversy as far as the stoppage from Marc Goddard went. Still, that was a great fight and the rematch should be good as well.

Rachael Ostovich has signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Ostovich was released from the UFC in December after losing three in a row. After the release, many were curious where she would sign as many pointed to Bellator given she is a Hawaiian, where Bellator holds events every year and is marketable. Yet, on Tuesday, it was announced BKFC signed the 30-year-old.

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman praised newly-crowned women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas after her upset win at UFC 261. Usman put on a stunning performance in the main event when he electrified the crowd with a KO win over Jorge Masvidal, but Namajunas was one of the stars of the show, as well. “Thug” knocked out Weili Zhang in the first round with a nasty head kick to become the new UFC women’s strawweight champion. It was an incredible performance by her once again as she regained the belt she lost to Jessica Andrade nearly two years ago in Brazil.

UFC flyweight Jeff Molina issued a statement following his insane, “Fight of the Night” war against Aoriqileng at UFC 261. Molina and Aoriqileng are not big names and their bout was just the second fight of the night on a stacked event that featured three title fights, so you can forgive fans for not expecting it to play out the way it did. But oh boy, did these two flyweights deliver, as both men traded heavy leather in the center of the Octagon for 15 minutes in an all-out brawl that won each man $50,000 for “Fight of the Night.” It was an absolutely insane fight made all the better because of the live crowd in Jacksonville, Florida cheering the fighters on.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman says he did not celebrate when Anderson Silva broke his leg in their fight at UFC 168. Weidman suffered a horrible injury at UFC 261 this past Saturday night when his leg shattered in half on the first kick he threw against Uriah Hall. It was one of the worst injuries we have ever seen in the Octagon, and ironically it was very reminiscent of Weidman’s fight against Silva in December 2013, which Weidman won via TKO when Silva broke his leg. Immediately after seeing Silva go down, Weidman ran around the cage, apparently celebrating his victory. However, the former champion says there is more to the story.

On Monday night, BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor reported that the UFC has offered Chimaev the Diaz fight.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman shared a series of photos of his broken leg suffered in his fight with Uriah Hall at UFC 261. Weidman suffered one of the most horrific injuries in UFC history when he broke his leg on the very first kick he threw against Hall at this past Saturday’s UFC 261. Immediately after throwing the kick, Weidman went down in pain and the replays show that his leg broke in half. “The All American” was rushed to the hospital afterwards for emergency surgery on his leg, surgery that he says was successful. Taking to his social media in the days following the accident, Weidman posted a series of X-ray photos of his leg.
