It is a compelling fight and one that is taking place in Derrick’s backyard of Houston, Texas.

Dana White has offered a new explanation for tonight’s interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 265, drawing a quick response from Francis Ngannou. Ciryl Gane and Derrick Lewis will collide in tonight’s event headliner in Houston with the promotions interim heavyweight title up for grabs. It is undoubtedly an exciting matchup, but given the fact that Francis Ngannou just won the heavyweight title back in March, many fans are not happy with the interim strap being associated with the bout.

Kevin Lee vs. Sean Brady has been canceled for the second time. Multiple sources informed BJPENN.com that Brady suffered an undisclosed injury and his fight against Lee is off. MMAJunkie was first to report the news of Brady’s withdrawal. The two were supposed to fight at UFC 264 but a minor rib injury from Lee forced him off the card and they were pushed back to August.

Justin Gaethje doesn’t think UFC 268 will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The pay-per-view card is scheduled for November 6 and is tentatively scheduled for MSG. However, New York has implemented a required proof of vaccination for indoor dining, fitness, and entertainment events. A UFC event would fall into the latter category, so Gaethje believes that will force the promotion out of MSG.

The official weigh-ins for UFC 265 took place on Friday in Houston, Texas, and 25 of the 26 fighters scheduled to compete made weight. In the main event of UFC 265, the interim heavyweight title is up for grabs as Derrick Lewis takes on Ciryl Gane. Lewis is coming off an upset KO win over Curtis Blaydes while Gane is undefeated at 9-0. Both men successfully stepped onto the scale and made weight so the interim title fight is set.

In the main event of UFC 265, Lewis will take on Gane in his hometown of Houston. Lewis is coming off an upset KO win over Curtis Blaydes back in February. “The Black Beast” is riding a four-fight winning streak and holds a win over the current champ in Francis Ngannou. Gane, meanwhile, is only 9-0 as a pro and signed to the UFC at 3-0. He has already fought twice in 2021, both being main events, where he won decisions over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Volkov.

Georgi Karakhanyan knew he shouldn’t have cut to featherweight anymore, and his eight-second KO loss to AJ McKee cemented that. Karakhanyan thought of moving up earlier but Bellator started the grand prix which made the 36-year-old stay at 145lbs. Unfortnately, in the opening round, he faced McKee and was knocked out in eight seconds. After the loss, he decided he would move up to lightweight and knows he is much better at that weight class.

Urijah Faber isn’t ruling out a return to the Octagon. Faber, the former WEC featherweight champion, is now 42-years-old and has not fought since he suffered a TKO loss to Petr Yan at UFC 245. However, the UFC Hall of Famer has always hinted at a return to the sport, and he says he plans on sitting down with the UFC to discuss that. He also knows if he were to return, it would not be for several months as he would need to get back into fight shape.

Conor McGregor and his spree of tweeting and deleting continues. Seemingly a permanent rival at this point, former undefeated 29-0 UFC lightweight king, Khabib Nurmagomedov recently commented on McGregor’s targeting of his father’s death on Twitter. This didn’t sit too well with “The Notorious.”

Julianna Pena is no longer challenging for the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 264 this Saturday night — that didn’t stop her from showing up anyway. At Thursday’s pre-fight press conference in Houston, Texas, “The Venezuelan Vixen” got on one of the media microphones to shoot her shot.

Strickland, who is coming off the back of a dominant win over Uriah Hall last weekend, seems to be more than ready to step up to the next level in the middleweight division. Some would’ve preferred to see him get an opponent in the top five, but instead, he’ll lock horns with a former 185-pound champion in the form of Luke Rockhold.

Ahead of the fight, Gane is a -380 favorite while “The Black Beast” is a +290 underdog. Ahead of the fight, BJPENN.com reached out to several pro fighters to get their prediction for the scrap. The majority of the pros believe it will be Gane being too technical for Lewis and winning a decision. However, they all still think Lewis is a live dog as he only needs to land one punch.

Ode Osbourne is eager to fight Manel Kape at UFC 265. Osbourne is dropping down to flyweight to face the former RIZIN champ in a scrap he’s eager about. He was supposed to fight Amir Albazi back in July but his opponent pulled out and he was matched up against Kape which he likes.

Jason Witt is pleased with his win over Bryan Barberena at UFC Vegas 33. Witt entered the fight coming off a 16-second KO loss to Matthew Semelsberger and had a chip on his shoulder. He had heard all the talk that he didn’t have a chin and Barberena would KO him early. Witt also entered the fight knowing if he lost, it likely would’ve been the final fight of his career.

Gilbert Burns took some unnecessary damage ahead of his UFC 264 clash with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. The former welterweight title challenger managed to rebound off his lone career defeat north of 155-pounds, but he had a scare beforehand. Burns shared in a recent interview with MMA Junkie how he managed to shake off taking a golf club straight to the dome.

Stipe Miocic has been offered and accepted a fight against Jon Jones, UFC president, Dana White revealed. Ever since Jones vacated his light heavyweight title the plan was for him to fight at heavyweight. However, “Bones” has yet to make the move but according to White, they have offered him Miocic, and the former heavyweight champ has already accepted it. But, they are waiting on Jones to see what he wants to do.
