Derrick Lewis lists three potential opponents for his next UFC fight

UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis is interested in fighting either Curtis Blaydes, Francis Ngannou, or Alistair Overeem in his next fight. Lewis picked up a stunning second-round TKO win over Aleksei Oleinik in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 32 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. After struggling in the first round and nearly getting tapped out with a submission by Oleinik, Lewis stormed out of the gates early in the second round. “The Black Beast” was able to knock Oleinik down and then pound him out for his third straight win in the UFC heavyweight division.

Former UFC double champ Henry Cejudo trashed the upcoming flyweight title fight between Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255. The news broke on Friday that the UFC will have Figueiredo make his first title defense of the UFC flyweight title when he takes on Garbrandt at UFC 255 on November 21. The move to give Garbrandt the title shot despite having no fights at 125lbs is sure to come under criticism. Figueiredo himself was said to be questioning talk of the matchup before it was officially booked, and now, the former champ Cejudo is putting his two cents’ in.

Undefeated Irish boxing superstar Katie Taylor is looking at a potential cross-code matchup against MMA legend Cris Cyborg. Taylor is a perfect 15-0 in professional boxing since making her debut in 2016 and is next set to take on Delfine Persoon later this month for the lightweight title. Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn doesn’t want Taylor to look too far ahead of her opponent, but he recently admitted that she’s interested in several matchups including a fight against Cyborg.

UFC on ESPN+ 32: Lewis vs. Oleinik takes place on Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and the weigh-ins took place on Friday. In the five-round heavyweight main event, headliners Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik both made weight. Lewis tipped the scales at a robust 265lbs while Oleinik was much smaller at 227lbs. This is a big fight in the UFC heavyweight division as Lewis is ranked No. 4 while Oleinik is ranked No. 10.
Corey Anderson signs with Bellator

Former Ultimate Fighter winner Corey Anderson, the No. 4 ranked light heavyweight in the UFC, has signed a new contract with Bellator. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani broke the news that Anderson had signed with Bellator. According to Helwani, Anderson asked for his release from the UFC despite having multiple fights left on his contract. The UFC granted Anderson his release and he signed with Bellator. Terms of Anderson’s deal with Bellator were not immediately available.

Bellator star Dillon Danis called out long-time social media rival Ben Askren in a fight that would pit two elite grapplers against one another. Danis and Askren have gone after each other on social media and in interviews for the last few years, but when Askren retired from MMA last year, it seemed that would kill any hopes of a potential matchup between the two. Things changed recently, however, when Askren revealed that he could be considering a potential comeback for the right opponent. UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem denied that he ducked a matchup against Derrick Lewis, saying that fight is an “easy paycheck” for him. Lewis takes on Aleksei Oleinik this Saturday night in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 32. Though Oleinik is a top-10 heavyweight, some fans were surprised when the UFC booked this fight because Overeem, who is ranked higher in the division, is currently without an opponent. According to Lewis during virtual media day for the event, the UFC tried to book him against Overeem but he says Overeem turned him down three times.
