How to watch UFC

BJ Penn Staff - July 29, 2019

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) broadcasts events on multiple platforms in the United States, which can make it a little difficult to keep track of how to watch UFC cards. UFC events now occur multiple times a month. This includes smaller-scale fight nights on ESPN+, mid-sized cards on ESPN, and of course, UFC pay-per-views, which are generally the biggest events on the promotion’s calendar.

Two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson is eager to get back on track after an upset, knockout loss to Anthony Pettis, and he knows just when he’d like to do so. In fact, he even has a potential opponent in mind. Speaking to the media backstage at UFC 240 last weekend in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the fighter they call “Wonderboy” called for a scrap with former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. He said he he’d like the bout to occur at UFC 244 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City this November.

Max Holloway successfully defended the UFC featherweight title with a unanimous decision win at UFC 240, but his opponent Frankie Edgar didn’t make it particularly easy for him. Alex Volkanovski, the man widely expected to get the next crack at Holloway, was cage-side for the fight, and says he scored it more closely than the judges did. “I actually thought that was a really close,” Volkanovski told MMA Fighting. “Sitting on the sidelines there, I thought it was a bit closer than what the judges scored, 50-45. I thought Frankie might have won some rounds. Definitely competitive I thought.”

Dana White says Conor McGregor right behind Tony Ferguson in lightweight title hunt

Adam Martin - July 29, 2019

We know that UFC megastar Conor McGregor is hoping for an immediate title shot when he returns to the Octagon. He wants the winner of UFC 242’s Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier, but it doesn’t look like he’ll get it, at least not just yet. Speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, UFC president Dana White confirmed that although McGregor wants to fight the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. Poirier, the Irish star is behind Tony Ferguson when it comes to getting the next lightweight title shot.

The Hawaiian champion has strengthened his reign by defeating some of the UFC’s best talent — now including the former lightweight champion. This leaves many wondering, who will try and dethrone “Blessed” next? Australian fighter Alex Volkanovski is currently ranked number No. 1 in the featherweight division. He most recent fights have also been against top fighters. This includes back to back wins against Darren Elkins, Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo. He is yet to be defeated in the UFC’s Octagon and is confident he’s the man to unseat Holloway.

Jan Blachowicz argues his case for title fight with Jon Jones

Tom Taylor - July 29, 2019

At this point, it’s not clear who will get the next crack at reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The frontrunners, however, seem to be Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz. Anderson, of course, seems like a much less likely option after UFC President Dana White buried him for turning down fights.

The fans wanted to see the fight, and it seemed like both fighters were into it. Not so, says Hooker. The Kiwi claims that the UFC told him Iaquinta turned the fight down. Here’s what Hooker said on his social media:

Dana White comments on timetable of Conor McGregor's return to the Octagon

Adam D Martin - July 28, 2019

We haven’t seen Conor McGregor fight inside the Octagon since his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov last October at UFC 229. McGregor was suspended following the event for the infamous post-fight brawl, as was Nurmagomedov, but McGregor was cleared to return to active competition a few months ago. Still, he hasn’t had a fight booked yet. There were rumors McGregor wanted to fight this summer, with Donald Cerrone calling him out on numerous occasions, but obviously at this point that won’t happen. Speaking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, White said that he doesn’t know exactly when McGregor’s next fight would be, but once again reiterated he wants to wait to see what happens when Nurmagomedov fights Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 this September in Abu Dhabi for the UFC lightweight championship.
