Colby Covington came up short in his bid to capture the UFC welterweight title at UFC 245, succumbing to fifth-round punches from the champion Kamaru Usman. Yet according to Dan Lambert, the owner of American Top Team, where Covington trains, the recent welterweight title challenger is still as confident as ever. “He is a 10 out of 10 as far as what I would hope his mindset would be after a fight like that,” Lambert told MMA Fighting of Covington. “He wants to get right back in. He wants to get right back into training. He wants to get back into training as soon as he’s ready health wise. He wants to get back and prove that he’s the best.

Despite losing to Marlon Moraes at UFC 245, Jose Aldo is confident he made the right decision to move down to bantamweight. The former UFC featherweight champ has his sights set on the bantamweight throne, and that includes overthrowing the current champion, Henry Cejudo. In the main event of UFC 245 last Saturday, Aldo showed he is as dangerous as ever. The closely contested fight ended in a controversial split decision victory in favour of Moraes. Aldo was confident he delivered the better performance and disagreed with the final ruling.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is set to defend his title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 on February 8. Initially, it seemed as though we were in for a cordial buildup to this fight. If Jones’ comments at the recent UFC 247 pre-fight press conference were any indication though, there’s plenty of trash talk coming our way. At the press conference, Jones explained why Reyes rubs him the wrong way.

As such, it should come as no surprise that a few fighters on the bill have been handed some lengthy medical suspensions. Most notably, Colby Covington is facing a lengthy sit due to the broken jaw he sustained in his failed welterweight title bid opposite Kamaru Usman.

At UFC 245, Colby Covington attempted to wrest the UFC welterweight title from the waist of champion Kamaru Usman. Unfortunately for the outspoken challenger, this mission didn’t go as planned, as he was stopped by a volley of fifth-round strikes from the champ. From here, Covington will likely take some time off to recover from the injuries he sustained in the fight — most notably a fractured jaw. From there, it’ll be back to the drawing board, as he attempts to work his way back to a shot at the UFC welterweight title.

Ilima-Lei MacFarlane is set to defend her Bellator women’s flyweight title at home in Hawaii for the second straight year. She takes on Kate Jackson this Saturday. Last year, she submitted Valerie Letourneau in Hawaii, and it was an emotional night for her. MacFarlane cried during her walkout, and the 29 year old expects to do so again at Bellator 236.

The UFC 245 show saw three title fights headline at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with arguably the two biggest stories of the evening being Kamaru Usman successfully retaining his Welterweight Championship and Alexander Volkanovski winning the Featherweight Championship.

After Usman TKO’d Colby Covington in the fifth round to defend his welterweight title for the first time many wondered what would be next for him. Leon Edwards has said he deserves the next shot yet Dana White believes Masvidal deserves it and that the fight would be massive.

Conor McGregor’s coach Owen Roddy says the Irishman has already formulated a gameplan for 2020, which includes a welterweight bout with Jorge Masvidal. ‘Mystic Mac’ is set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone. According to Roddy, the plan after is for Conor McGregor to fight Masvidal.

Number 4 ranked welterweight fighter, Leon Edwards was not impressed with Kamaru Usman’s performance at UFC 245. The welterweight champion, Usman, squared off with his bitter rival Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 245 on Saturday December 14th. The elite wrestler’s utilized a different part of their MMA skillset, battling it out in a striking war for the better part of five rounds. Both fighters delivered impressive performances, but Usman used his striking accuracy and power to overthrow his opponent. He finished Covington by TKO in the final minute of round five and successfully defended his welterweight title for the first time with the win.

The welterweight champion used his striking to chip away at “Chaos” until he finally sealed the deal with a fifth-round knockdown and followup ground strikes, successfully defending his title for the first time.

Usman successfully defended his UFC welterweight gold against Covington this past Saturday night (Dec. 14) in the main event of UFC 245. “The Nigerian Nightmare” and “Chaos” had a back-and-forth battle. Usman scored the fifth-round TKO victory.

After a backstage altercation with Petr Yan at UFC 245, however, he’s already itching to settle his differences with the Russian in the cage thereafter. Responding to a fan on Twitter, Garbrandt welcomed a future fight with Yan — even on Yan’s home turf.
