Chael Sonnen has continued his ongoing war of words with former rival Jon Jones after the recent talks of a Francis Ngannou fight went south. It’s not exactly a secret that Sonnen and Jones don’t really like each other, and while “Bones” was able to get the better of “The Bad Guy” when they fought for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, it doesn’t really feel like that’s the point.

Jones and Ngnanou had been going back-and-forth for a few weeks about a potential superfight, but White recently squashed those rumors when he said the fight won’t happen. According to White, both Jones and Ngannnou wanted too much money to make the fight happen, and the UFC is instead going in another direction.

A middleweight bout between top contenders Darren Till and Robert Whittaker will headline a UFC Fight Island event on July 25. Combate first reported the Till vs. Whittaker bout for the UFC Fight Island event. The pair were originally supposed to meet at a UFC Dublin event in August, but that card like every other UFC card was compromised by the coronavirus pandemic. The pair will now fight a few weeks earlier on UFC Fight Island instead. Although no title will be on the line, the bout is scheduled for five rounds since it’s the main event.

Zhang is coming off of a split decision win over Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 in one of the best women’s MMA fights of all time. It was Zhang’s first title defense since winning the belt with a first-round TKO win over Jessica Andrade at UFC China last year. All told, Zhang is on a 21-fight win streak and is a perfect 5-0 while competing in the UFC.
