Dana White says Anthony Johnson 'sort of disappeared' following initial return plans

If you’re looking forward to the return of Anthony Johnson, Dana White’s update isn’t so encouraging. Back in the summer of 2019, it was revealed that “Rumble” planned to make a comeback in the UFC heavyweight division. “Rumble” was shooting for a date in March but we’re now in mid-2020 and Johnson still hasn’t stepped back inside the Octagon.

This Saturday, the UFC will return to our screens for the fourth consecutive week in a row with the under-the-radar UFC on ESPN 12 card at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas. UFC on ESPN 12 will be headlined by a lightweight showdown between top-10 contenders Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier. For Hooker, this bout will mark an opportunity to build on the momentum of three straight victories: a knockout of James Vick, and a pair of decision triumphs over Al Iaquinta and Paul Felder.

Shane Burgos has issued a statement after coming up short in a Fight of the Year contender with Josh Emmett at UFC on ESPN 11 in Las Vegas last Saturday. Emmett and Burgos, both ranked featherweight contenders, collided in the card’s co-main event. After three, frenetic rounds that left many fans wishing the fight was a five-rounder, Emmett was awarded a unanimous decision win.
Alexander Volkov issues statement after loss to Curtis Blaydes

Top-10 UFC heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov has released a statement after his lopsided loss to Curtis Blaydes in the UFC on ESPN 11 main event on Saturday night. Volkov, who is the former Bellator heavyweight champion, had no answer for Blaydes’ takedowns and top control in the fight, losing a unanimous decision after five grueling rounds.

Former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo has recently been calling for a featherweight title shot. UFC President Dana White isn’t interested. Cejudo, who previously held the UFC bantamweight and featherweight straps, retired last month after a TKO victory over Dominick Cruz.

Former UFC light heavyweight Robert Drysdale released a video statement following the controversial stoppage in the Max Rohskopf fight at UFC on ESPN 11. Drysdale came under heavy criticism from fans and media after he wouldn’t stop the fight between Rohskopf and Austin Hubbard, which kicked off Saturday’s event. After a competitive first round, Rohskopf — who took the fight on extremely short notice — began to tire badly in the second round and started to get teed off on by Hubbard. Instead of going out for the third round, Rohskopf decided to retire on the stood instead. However, Drysdale tried his absolute best to change his fighter’s mind before the TKO stoppage.

UFC Hall of Famer Georges St. Pierre is widely considered to be one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time and GSP explained what it takes to be the GOAT. GSP is one of the rare two-division champions in UFC history, having won the UFC welterweight and UFC middleweight titles, and he will be the next inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame. He is often ranked among the top-three MMA fighters of all time, but nothing was handed to him. GSP had to work for everything that he had, and now he’s giving some of his life lessons away to his fans in order to see them achieve their own goals.

UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad believes that the UFC rankings need to be abolished, saying it’s leading to ranked fighters ducking a matchup against him. Despite an 8-3 record in the UFC and a three-fight win streak, Muhammad is not ranked in the top-15. The welterweight spoke at the UFC on ESPN 11 post-fight press conference following his decision win over Lyman Good and explained why the UFC rankings should be abolished.

UFC heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes said that he knows fans didn’t enjoy his main event fight against Alexander Volkov but he’s content with it. Blaydes won a unanimous decision with scores of 49-46, 48-47, and 48-46 over a tough Volkov in the main event of UFC on ESPN 11. Blaydes was able to set the heavyweight record for most takedowns in a fight but he was not able to get the finish despite having Volkov under him on the mat in top position for the majority of the fight.

UFC welterweight superstar Jorge Masvidal unleashed a verbal attack on manager Ali Abdelaziz after he criticized Masvidal for his contract situation. Masvidal is currently holding out for a new contract with the UFC after picking up three straight stoppage wins over Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Darren Till. Masvidal was set to fight UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 251, but he stuck to his guns and refused to sign what he said was a below-market value deal. The UFC then pivoted and gave No. 1 contender Gilbert Burns the fight against Usman.
Lyman Good issues emotional statement following UFC on ESPN 11 loss

UFC welterweight Lyman Good issued an emotional statement following a decision loss to Belal Muhammad at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 11 card in Las Vegas. Good and Muhammad put on a show for the fans as both men went back-and-forth for three hard-fought rounds, though Muhammad eventually emerged as the winner via unanimous decision. Up until Josh Emmett and Shane Burgos stole the show in the co-main event, Good and Muhammad were in the running for “Fight of the Night.”

UFC president Dana White criticized heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes for his performance during his victory over Alexander Volkov at UFC on ESPN 11. Blaydes was able to win a unanimous decision with scores of 49-46, 48-47 and 48-46 over Volkov as he used his wrestling to take his opponent down at will and control him on the mat. However, Blaydes was not able to get the finish despite having so much top control time on the mat, and not only that but he looked exhausted in the last two rounds. Despite some scares late in the fight, he was still able to get his hand raised.
Dana White confirms Adesanya vs. Costa and Miocic vs. Cormier 3: “The fights we have lined up for summer are just awesome!”

UFC president Dana White confirmed Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier 3 as well as a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa. The UFC has a number of high-profile fights lined up this summer, including Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns headlining UFC 251 on Fight Island in July, plus a really exciting middleweight fight between rivals Darren Till and Robert Whittaker planned for later this summer. The UFC intends on holding four shows at Fight Island in July before heading back to the UFC Apex in its home base of Las Vegas, Nevada, in August.
