UFC 298 Results: Amanda Lemos defeats Mackenzie Dern (Highlights)

Dern (13-4 MMA) will enter the contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a TKO loss to former division champion Jessica Andrade at November’s UFC 295 event in New York City. Prior to that setback, Dern was coming off a unanimous decision win over Angela Hill in May of 2023.

Meanwhile, Amanda Lemos (13-3-1 MMA) was last seen in action at last August’s UFC 292 event, where she suffered a unanimous decision loss to Weili Zhang in a fight for the promotion‘s strawweight title. Prior to that setback, the 36-year-old Brazilian was coming off stoppage wins over Michelle Waterson and Marina Rodriguez respectively.

Round one of this women’s strawweight bout begins and Amanda Lemos connects with a hard low kick to start. She lands another. A good kick to the body now from Lemos. She lands a nice right as Mackenzie Dern attempts to close the distance. Dern with a decent left. Lemos answers with a low kick. She goes upstairs with a right hand and then lands another low kick. Dern’s lead leg is already battered. Amanda Lemos with a hard kick to the body. She looks terrific in the early going here. Dern shoots in and scores a beautiful double leg takedown. Mackenzie moves to half guard. Lemos looks to wall-walk, but Dern won’t allow it. Mackenzie is looking to move to full mount, but Amanda does a good job of preventing her from advancing. Dern with a pair of good right hands to close out the round.

Round two begins and Amanda Lemos gets back to work with her kicks. Mackenzie Dern rushes in with a right hand that misses. Another massive low kick from Lemos. She clips Dern and she is in all sorts of trouble. Another big shot and Mackenzie goes down. Lemos jumps all over her fallen opponent with ground and pound. Dern somehow survives the onslaught and is now on her back and looking to score a leg lock. Mackenzie’s face is a mess. Lemos stands up and tells Dern to do the same. Mackenzie comes forward with a right hand. Amanda Lemos answers with a nice 1-2. Both ladies connect with big rights in the pocket. The fighters clinch and Lemos scores a trip takedown. Mackenzie Dern immediatley looks to roll for an armbar. She scores a beautiful sweep and winds up in top position. Good ground and pound from Dern before the horn sounds to end round two.

The third and final round of the UFC 298 featured prelim begins and Mackenzie Dern lands a huge right hand. She leaps in and pulls guard. Dern looking for the same sweep she utilized to take top position last round. Dern let’s that go and looks to isolate a leg. She’s searching for a kneebar. Mackenzie moves to half guard. Just under two minutes remaining. Dern with some decent punches from the top. Lemos scrambles and is able to get back up to her feet. The fighters continue to battle in the clinch and Amanda is able to take Mackenzie back down to the floor. The horn sounds to end the fight.
