Michael Chandler has opened as the betting underdog in his proposed UFC 281 showdown against Dustin Poirier. For many months now we’ve heard talk of Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier potentially squaring off following their many interactions with one another across interviews, social media and in person. Recently, word came through that a lightweight tussle between them was actually being targeted for UFC 281, which is set to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler will finally be fighting. Ever since Chandler signed with the UFC, the two have been linked to fighting one another. Now, according to Ariel Helwani, the promotion is targeting Poirier vs. Chandler to take place at UFC 281 on November 12 in Madison Square Garden in New York. The deal has not been signed but is trending in the right direction, Poirier’s team wants the contest to be five-rounds according to reports.

Michael Chandler believes the next time he makes the walk to the Octagon, Dustin Poirier will be staring across him. Chandler and Poirier have been linked to a fight ever since the former Bellator lightweight champion signed with the UFC. However, it hasn’t come to fruition yet, but at UFC 276, the two had a verbal altercation and Chandler believes that fight makes sense to make.

Dustin Poirier says it is fake news that he is fighting Beneil Dariush his next time out. After the UFC booked Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title, it was uncertain who Dariush would fight next given he was booked to face Makhachev earlier this year before he suffered an injury. Dariush’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz then revealed the UFC was working on a matchup between him and Poirier.

Jiri Prochazka has given some detail about the verbal altercation between Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler. At UFC 276, a video emerged of Poirier and Chandler yelling at each other and needing to be separated. Given the full conversation can not be heard, it was uncertain how it came together or what they were arguing over. Now, however, Prochazka who was right by the two of them did an interview and talked about how the scuffle came together.

Last Saturday night at UFC 276 in Las Vegas, fans got a bit more than they bargained for in the crowd as Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler got into an altercation during the broadcast. Gilbert Burns, of all people, was on hand to record the interaction, with many being surprised as to how frustrated Poirier seemed to be.

Dustin Poirier believes Charles Oliveira could have done more to make weight at UFC 274. Charles Oliveira (33-8 MMA) was forced to vacate his lightweight belt after he missed the 155 pound mark by 1/2 a pound at weigh-ins prior to his UFC 274 title fight against Justin Gaethje (23-4 MMA). The Arizona commission did give the Brazilian an extra hour to bring down his weight, but Oliveira was unsuccessful in doing so. While the fight went on and Oliveira defeated Gaethje in Round 1 on May 7th, the championship title was no longer his.

Tony Ferguson has confirmed that he’d be interested in battling Dustin Poirier in his next UFC appearance. He hasn’t had the best of luck inside the Octagon in recent years but Tony Ferguson is still a big fan favourite among mixed martial arts fans. His style, combined with his cardio, makes him a force to be reckoned with – even if he’s currently riding a four-fight losing streak.

MMA analyst Michael Bisping isn’t so sure Dustin Poirier accepting Colby Covington’s challenge is a good idea. When Colby Covington called Dustin Poirier out after his win over Jorge Masvidal in March, Poirier was quick to shoot down the idea. He noted that he didn’t want to give Covington the satisfaction of facing him and earning money from the inevitable trash talk that would ensue.

Dustin Poirier has admitted that coach Mike Brown warned him against taking a fight with rival Colby Covington. Just a few days ago, Dustin Poirier seemingly accepted Colby Covington’s challenge to face him later this summer in a UFC welterweight showdown. It came a couple of months after Covington called Poirier out in the wake of defeating another member of American Top Team, and one of his former friends, Jorge Masvidal.

Following his victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, Covington called out Poirier. The two have a history as former training partners and friends, but it would be hard to tell. Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is tired of waiting around to fight. ‘The Diamond’ recently confirmed that he’s signed on to fight Nate Diaz twice this calendar year, but so far nothing has been booked. Poirier has been out of action since December 2021, a loss to Charles Oliveira. Following the defeat, he was quickly linked to a fight with fellow star Nate Diaz. Both men agreed to the fight multiple times on Twitter.

Dustin Poirier may very well be fighting Colby Covington next. After Covington beat Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 he called out Poirier, yet ‘The Diamond’ showed no interest in it. He said he didn’t want to allow Covington to make any money by fighting him. Now, however, it appears he has an interest in the bout as he tweeted at ‘Chaos’ saying he accepts the challenge.

Dustin Poirier has accepted the challenge laid out by former teammate Colby Covington at UFC 272. Covington had called out Poirier following his unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at March’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.
