Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo trilogy official for UFC 270
Adam D Martin - October 14, 2021
The upcoming trilogy fight between UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno and his rival Deiveson Figueiredo is now official for UFC 270. Moreno vs. Figueiredo 3 was originally set to take place at UFC 269 on December 11. However, after the UFC added a welterweight bout between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal to the card, the promotion decided there was enough star power on the card. With UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier and UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena already set for UFC 269, the promotion decided that it would instead move the Moreno vs. Figueiredo fight to 2022.
Dana White explains why the UFC booked Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo 3
Adam D Martin - September 22, 2021
UFC president Dana White explained why the UFC booked Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo 3 instead of Alexandre Pantoja instead. After Pantoja submitted Brandon Royval last month, he was fully expected to get the next title shot against Moreno. After all, Pantoja has two previous wins over Moreno — one in TUF, and one in the UFC — and after submitting Royval in devastating fashion, he deserved the chance to fight for the belt. However, the UFC chose to go a different route as the promotion recently announced that Moreno will not be fighting Pantoja next. Instead, Moreno will be fighting Figueiredo, and the two will meet at UFC 269 in a trilogy fight.
Brandon Moreno reacts following announcement of Deiveson Figueiredo trilogy fight
Adam D Martin - September 16, 2021
UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno reacted following the promotion’s recent announcement of the Deiveson Figueiredo trilogy fight. Moreno and Figueiredo have been involved in a pair of memorable fights over the past year. The two flyweight rivals first met in the main event of UFC 256 last December, with Moreno and Figueiredo fighting to a majority draw after a point was deducted to the champ Figueiredo due to a low blow. The two then rematched at UFC 263 in June, with Moreno submitting Figueiredo in the third round with a rear-naked choke in order to put some closure to their rivalry. However, Figueiredo has made it clear in the last few months that he wants the trilogy fight with Moreno. While Moreno initially said no to it and was expected to fight Alexandre Pantoja, the UFC decided to book Figueiredo to get the title fight at UFC 269 in December. With the fight now official, check out Moreno’s reaction.
Deiveson Figueiredo pays tribute to former opponent Joseph Benavidez following retirement
Adam D Martin - September 16, 2021
UFC flyweight contender Deiveson Figueiredo paid tribute to former opponent Joseph Benavidez following his retirement from MMA. Figueiredo and Benavidez fought twice in 2020, with Figueiredo winning both of the fights. In the first fight in February 2020, Figueiredo knocked Benavidez out with punches after a headbutt led to the finish. In addition, Figueiredo had missed weight for that fight and was not able to win the title. The UFC then re-booked the rematch due to the controversial ending, but this time around, the Brazilian proved he was the better fighter with a dominant first-round submission win. It was in the second fight that Figueiredo won the vacant flyweight belt. Overall, the pair had a very memorable pair of UFC title fights.

Deiveson Figueiredo still wants Brandon Moreno next, tells Alexandre Pantoja to wait for his rematch
Adam D Martin - August 23, 2021
Former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo still wants Brandon Moreno next, telling Alexandre Pantoja to wait for his rematch. Pantoja submitted Brandon Royval at UFC Vegas 34 in a fight that UFC president Dana White himself called a title eliminator. Because Pantoja already has two previous wins over Moreno, on TUF and in the Octagon, he appears to be next in line for the champ Moreno, and the two flyweights actually verbally agreed to the fight following Pantoja’s win over Royval. However, Figueiredo is still hot on the trail and wants the Moreno fight first.

Adam D Martin - August 16, 2021
Deiveson Figueiredo trashed “p*ssy” UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno, while saying that he demands a trilogy fight for the 125lbs title. Figueiredo and Moreno have fought in a pair of memorable fights over the past year. The first time they met was in the main event of UFC 256 last December, with the pair fighting to a majority draw in a “Fight of the Year” candidate. Figueiredo actually would have won the fight had it not been for a point deduction for a low blow. Because it was a draw and since it was such an action-packed fight, the UFC booked the immediate rematch for UFC 263 in June, and this time, Moreno won the belt with a rear-naked choke submission win.

The first time they met, the two rivals fought to a majority draw in the main event of UFC 256 last December in what was undoubtedly one of the best fights of 2020. Since the fight was declared a draw, the UFC matchmakers decided to run it back right away, and Figueiredo and Moreno met at UFC 263 back in June, this time with Moreno submitting Figueiredo to take home the title.

Adam D Martin - June 16, 2021

Figueiredo was stopped in the third round by a rear-naked choke from Brandon Moreno in the co-main event of this past Saturday night’s UFC 263 pay-per-view event. For Figueiredo, it was disappointing to lose his title, especially after he already fought Moreno to a draw in his last outing. The Brazilian struggled to make weight for the fight and then put on a flat performance, but he has already said that he plans on sticking around 125lbs and making another run for his title when he is able to return to the Octagon.

Finally, it was Edwards winning a clear-cut decision over Diaz but the final minute is what most will remember.

Adam D Martin - June 14, 2021
UFC president Dana White admitted that he was surprised Brandon Moreno beat Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 263, further admitting “I was wrong.” Moreno submitted Figueiredo in the third round with a rear-naked choke to become the new UFC flyweight champion. The two rivals previously met in the main event of UFC 256 last December, and they fought to a majority draw after the referee deducted a point from Figueiredo for a low blow. The rematch at UFC 263, however, proved to be decisive for the challenger as he dethroned the champion by taking him out in the third round by submission. It was an incredible performance by Moreno, and one White didn’t see coming.
