The two bantamweights will battle in a No. 1 contender bout to face the winner of the expected fight between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.

For the longest time now, fight fans have been waiting for this fight to happen. It’s been close to taking place several times in the past, but for one reason or another, it hasn’t come to fruition. Now, it seems as if we’re finally going to get Cory Sandhagen locking horns with Umar Nurmagomedov.

Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov picked up a win earlier this month, and after that victory, he once again called for a fight with the American.

UFC bantamweight Cory Sandhagen has revealed that he’s open to a showdown with Umar Nurmagomedov. Last summer, Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov were set to meet in the Octagon. However, due to injury, Umar was forced to withdraw, with Rob Font taking his place. Sanhdagen was able to extend his win streak to three, whereas Nurmagomedov returned this past weekend. He was able to defeat Bekzat Almakhan, stretching his unbeaten record to 17-0 in the process.

Following a successful return to the Octagon against Bekzat Almakhan this past Saturday, Umar Nurmagomedov wants to settle things with Cory Sandhagen. Nurmagomedov and Sandhagen were set to collide back in August 2023, but Umar was forced to pull out due to an injury suffered during training camp. He hopes to have the fight rebooked, and even has a date in mind.

Cory Sandhagen is open to fighting Umar Nurmagomedov his next time out. Sandhagen and Nurmagomedov were supposed to headline UFC Nashville last August, but an injury knocked the Dagestani fighter out of the fight. Sandhagen ended up getting a lopsided decision win over Rob Font on that card and hasn’t fought since. Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, is set to return to the Octagon on March 2 against UFC newcomer Bekzat Almakhan.

While it was Cory Sandhagen’s third victory in a row, it came at a cost. In the five-round main event, he suffered a torn triceps, putting him on the shelf indefinitely. As a result, the bantamweight division has been passing him by.

Last night, UFC president Dana White announced that Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera will battle it out over the UFC bantamweight championship at UFC 299. While many are excited about their rematch, others wonder whether or not Vera has earned the right to get such a fight. While he did beat Pedro Munhoz in his last outing, it wasn’t overly convincing, and he lost fairly convincingly to Cory Sandhagen prior to that.

In the main event of UFC Nashville, Sandhagen took on Rob Font on just a few weeks’ notice after Umar Nurmagomedov had to withdraw from their fight due to an injury. Sandhagen entered the bout with a nagging elbow injury and in the first round he hurt his arm even further which forced him to turn to his wrestling.

In the main event of UFC Nashville, top-10 bantamweights met in a 140lbs catchweight fight as Cory Sandhagen took on Rob Font. Sandhagen entered the scrap coming off back-to-back wins over Marlon Vera and Song Yadong in precious fight night main events. Prior to the back-to-back wins, Sandhagen had lost two in a row to Petr Yan for the interim belt and a controversial split decision to TJ Dillashaw. Font, meanwhile, snapped his two-fight losing skid last time out as he scored a first-round knockout over Adrian Yanez.

In the makeshift main event, Cory Sandhagen dominated using his wrestling to secure a lopsided decision win.

It was just this past Saturday, August 5th at UFC Nashville, that saw Rob Font (20-7 MMA) get defeated by Cory Sandhagen (17-4 MMA) via unanimous decision. The catchweight main event result, while very positive for ‘Sandman’, has also left the fighter injured and in need of surgery.

Last weekend, Cory Sandhagen vs Rob Font served as the headliner for UFC Nashville. While many were hoping for a strong bantamweight main event, that wasn’t quite how things turned out. Instead, we had a grappling-heavy encounter with Sandhagen clearly coming out on top. As you can probably imagine, many weren’t happy with the outcome.

Sandhagen was expecting to meet Umar Nurmagomedov, but Umar suffered an injury during training. When it was clear that Umar was out of the fight, Font got the call to fill in.
