Cole Shelton - August 7, 2021

Kevin Lee vs. Sean Brady has been canceled for the second time. Multiple sources informed BJPENN.com that Brady suffered an undisclosed injury and his fight against Lee is off. MMAJunkie was first to report the news of Brady’s withdrawal. The two were supposed to fight at UFC 264 but a minor rib injury from Lee forced him off the card and they were pushed back to August.

Justin Gaethje doesn’t think UFC 268 will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The pay-per-view card is scheduled for November 6 and is tentatively scheduled for MSG. However, New York has implemented a required proof of vaccination for indoor dining, fitness, and entertainment events. A UFC event would fall into the latter category, so Gaethje believes that will force the promotion out of MSG.

Justin Gaethje says he’s eager to fight Michael Chandler as he doesn’t like the former Bellator lightweight champion. Gaethje and Chandler are scheduled to face one another on November 6 at UFC 268. It’s a highly-anticipated fight at lightweight where the winner could earn a title shot. For Gaethje, however, he says he’s ecstatic for the fight as it’s been a while since he fought someone he doesn’t like.

The official weigh-ins for UFC 265 took place on Friday in Houston, Texas, and 25 of the 26 fighters scheduled to compete made weight. In the main event of UFC 265, the interim heavyweight title is up for grabs as Derrick Lewis takes on Ciryl Gane. Lewis is coming off an upset KO win over Curtis Blaydes while Gane is undefeated at 9-0. Both men successfully stepped onto the scale and made weight so the interim title fight is set.

Georgi Karakhanyan knew he shouldn’t have cut to featherweight anymore, and his eight-second KO loss to AJ McKee cemented that. Karakhanyan thought of moving up earlier but Bellator started the grand prix which made the 36-year-old stay at 145lbs. Unfortnately, in the opening round, he faced McKee and was knocked out in eight seconds. After the loss, he decided he would move up to lightweight and knows he is much better at that weight class.

Urijah Faber isn’t ruling out a return to the Octagon. Faber, the former WEC featherweight champion, is now 42-years-old and has not fought since he suffered a TKO loss to Petr Yan at UFC 245. However, the UFC Hall of Famer has always hinted at a return to the sport, and he says he plans on sitting down with the UFC to discuss that. He also knows if he were to return, it would not be for several months as he would need to get back into fight shape.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has fought a lot of power punchers in his UFC career but one opponent sticks out. When Nurmagomedov fought Conor McGregor at UFC 229, many said he had to be worried about the Irishman’s power. He had been knocking everyone out at featherweight and knocked out and dropped Eddie Alvarez several times in his UFC lightweight debut. Yet, for “The Eagle” he says Justin Gaethje is the hardest hitter he has ever fought.

Conor McGregor and his spree of tweeting and deleting continues. Seemingly a permanent rival at this point, former undefeated 29-0 UFC lightweight king, Khabib Nurmagomedov recently commented on McGregor’s targeting of his father’s death on Twitter. This didn’t sit too well with “The Notorious.”

There’s clearly no love lost between Dana White and Jake Paul. The YouTuber-turned boxing star has slammed the UFC boss on multiple occasions and has stated that he’d never work with him. It comes as little surprise that White, in turn, has ruled out working with the 24 year old.

Back in the day Lewis dabbled in the world of boxing after being scouted by Foreman and his team. They were initially looking for someone to fight one of Foreman’s sons but after realising just how dangerous “The Black Beast” was, George opted to train Derrick and even gifted him a car.

Sean Strickland has hit out at Luke Rockhold after news broke of their potential match-up later this year. Strickland, who is coming off the back of a dominant win over Uriah Hall last weekend, seems to be more than ready to step up to the next level in the middleweight division. Some would’ve preferred to see him get an opponent in the top five, but instead, he’ll lock horns with a former 185-pound champion in the form of Luke Rockhold.

Ode Osbourne is eager to fight Manel Kape at UFC 265. Osbourne is dropping down to flyweight to face the former RIZIN champ in a scrap he’s eager about. He was supposed to fight Amir Albazi back in July but his opponent pulled out and he was matched up against Kape which he likes.

Jason Witt is pleased with his win over Bryan Barberena at UFC Vegas 33. Witt entered the fight coming off a 16-second KO loss to Matthew Semelsberger and had a chip on his shoulder. He had heard all the talk that he didn’t have a chin and Barberena would KO him early. Witt also entered the fight knowing if he lost, it likely would’ve been the final fight of his career.

As the global pandemic gets closer to departing our lives, the UFC has done its best to return to normality — as evidenced by the return of fan-filled arena events. But with the coronavirus not yet 100 percent out of our lives, certain locations and businesses have begun requiring vaccination.

The former welterweight title challenger managed to rebound off his lone career defeat north of 155-pounds, but he had a scare beforehand. Jose Aldo has no ill will towards Conor McGregor and is hopeful that his former foe can make a full recovery from the leg break he suffered at UFC 264. Aldo (29-7 MMA), the promotions former featherweight kingpin, will return to the Octagon in this Saturday’s UFC 265 co-main event for a bantamweight bout with Pedro Munhoz.
