Ciryl Gane vs. Tai Tuivasa targeted as UFC France main event in September

UFC France is getting closer to having its main event. The promotion is reportedly targeting a heavyweight slugfest between Ciryl Gane and Tai Tuivasa. The UFC is set to hold its first MMA in France on September 3rd. The sport was first legalized in January 2020, but the promotion has been able to get out to the country. Bellator has notably held several MMA cards there, with Bellator 280 set for next week in Paris.

The two have engaged words via ‘Twitter’ callouts with Paul offering Bisping $1 million if he could get sanctioned for a fight.

Chael Sonnen believes that former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones can defy the odds in his move up. ‘Bones’ hasn’t been seen in the octagon since UFC 247 in February 2020. There, Jones scored a controversial unanimous decision victory over Dominick Reyes to retain his light-heavyweight gold. It seems primed to be his last fight at 205 pounds.

Former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will likely be spending the rest of her career in the UFC. The Polish fighter hasn’t competed since UFC 248 in March 2020. Her co-main event bout against Weili Zhang for the strawweight title went down as one of the greatest women’s fights ever. Jedrzejczyk wound up losing the bout via a close split decision.

Maycee Barber will look to extend her win streak to three in a row at International Fight Week. Multiple sources informed BJPENN.com on Thursday that Barber has been booked to face Jessica Eye at UFC 276 on July 2 in Las Vegas. Eye was originally supposed to fight Casey O’Neill at the event, but on Thursday Casey announced she was out of the bout due to a torn ACL.

ONE heavyweight champion Arjan Bhullar has revealed that there were discussions of him heading back to the UFC. In turn, Henry Cejudo would be headed to the Asia-based promotion. The 35-year-old was in the UFC for two years, from 2017 to 2019. Despite going 3-1 inside the octagon, he departed to ONE Championship. He scored a unanimous decision victory over Mauro Cerilli, to earn a heavyweight title shot against Brandon Vera.

Charles Oliveira has a surprising gameplan for his upcoming title defense at UFC 274 against Justin Gaethje. Oliveira is looking for his second title defense in the main event of UFC 274 on May 7 and in the lead-up to the fight, many expected the Brazilian’s game plan would be to get the fight to the ground. The champ has been dropped in his past two fights and with Gaethje having a ton of power, many think he would want to try and use his jiu-jitsu. Yet, in a recent interview, Oliveira suggested he is willing to stand and exchange shots with the challenger.

Updated charges reveal Colby Covington suffered a ‘brain injury’ from the alleged attack he suffered at the hands of Jorge Masvidal. It was on March 21st, 2022 that Masvidal got into a physical altercation with Colby Covington outside a steakhouse in Miami, Florida. It had just been over two weeks since the two met in the Octagon at UFC 272. It was Covington (17-3 MMA) who defeated Masvidal (35-16 MMA) by unanimous decision in the welterweight main event.
