Renato Moicano has briefly spoken out following his first-round submission loss against Islam Makhachev. Moicano was given a golden opportunity this past Saturday night. Makhachev, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, was scheduled to face Arman Tsarukyan in the UFC 311 headliner. Plans changed when Tsarukyan pulled out of the title fight due to a back injury. Since Moicano was able to make championship weight, he was called upon to replace Tsarukyan.

At the very least, he’s the best mixed martial artist, and that much was made even clearer last night. He went in there and took Renato Moicano apart in one round, albeit on short notice. Now, it’s hard to deny that he’s also one of the top two lightweights – or three – to have ever competed in the UFC.

During the weigh-ins on Friday, White took to social media to announce that Tsarukyan was pulled from the card due to a back injury. “Akhalkalakets” was replaced by Renato Moicano, who was submitted in the first round.

In the co-main event of UFC 311, Umar Nurmagomedov challenged Merab Dvalishvili for the UFC bantamweight championship. It proved to be a competitive, back and forth affair, and in the end, Dvalishvili got the decision win and retained the belt. In the immediate aftermath, Umar made it clear that he didn’t believe he lost the fight – and also suggested that he broke his hand early on in the contest.
