Bellator MMA’s anticipated Featherweight World Grand Prix is about to begin. The eight quarterfinal matchups of the tournament will occur between Bellator 226, scheduled for this Saturday, and Bellator 228, scheduled for September 8. This Saturday, the UFC will touch down in Abu Dhabi with UFC 242. While the card features several Middle Eastern fighters, there has yet to be a UFC champion from the region. UFC President Dana White believes that will change soon. The UFC boss believes the UFC could have a Middle Eastern titleholder within the next six or seven years.

Edson Barboza is set for the first rematch of his career when he takes on Paul Felder in the co-main event of UFC 242 this weekend. The two first fought back at UFC on FOX 16 in 2015, when Barboza won by decision. The fight was honored as the Fight of the Night. Now, however, when the two step back into the Octagon, Barboza, who is from Brazil and trains at American Top Team, is not looking for another Fight of the Night.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has been an incredibly dominant force in the UFC lightweight division, but he has not made much mention of moving up to welterweight or down to featherweight. As it turns out, there is a reason for that. Nurmagomedov has always been focused on building a legacy, and he believes consistency in his natural weight class is more important to that end than seeking challenges in new weight classes.

Kenny Florian believes Daniel Cormier should retire after losing his heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic at UFC 241. The former UFC two-division champ ‘DC’ put his heavyweight belt on the line in a rematch against Miocic. The pair first fought at UFC 226 in 2018 when Cormier knocked Miocic out in round one. However, the second time around, Cormier lost via TKO in the fourth.

Jessica Andrade is no longer the UFC strawweight champion. In the main event of UFC Shenzhen, she was knocked out by Chinese challenger, Weili Zhang in just 42 seconds. It was a dominant performance from Zhang as she rocked Andrade early and followed up with knees, elbows, and punches until the Brazilian dropped to the ground and the ref called a stop to the fight.

Back in June, in the main event of UFC Minneapolis, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos stepped into the Octagon with ferocious contender Francis Ngannou. Despite his best efforts, dos Santos became the latest victims of Ngannou’s incredible skill and power, succumbing to a TKO just 1:11 into the fight’s first round. Several months removed from this lopsided loss, dos Santos is keen for a do-over against Ngannou. Although he came up short the first time around, he’s not convinced that Ngannou is a better fighter than he is.

Shortly after UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in late 2018, he leapt over the side of the Octagon and attacked McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. In the subsequent moments, McGregor got physical with several of Nurmagomedov’s teammates inside the cage. It was one of the most infamous and chaotic moments in UFC history, and it resulted in multiple suspensions and fines for the fighters involved. This week, the UFC released the Countdown episode for Nurmagomedov’s UFC 242 fight with Dustin Poirier, which featured some new angles of this frenzied post-fight brawl.

He left his gloves in the center of the Octagon and said that he would be leaving the sport at age 32. Well, it looks like that retirement may be short-lived as Gustafsson appears to be joining a long list of MMA fighters who don’t leave the sport for long.

The 44-year-old Frenchman will take on Ryan Bader in the main event of Bellator 226 this Saturday. The training camp preparing for Bader has not been an easy one for Kongo. He knows the Bellator champion is an elite wrestler so in preparation he brought in world class, Olympic-level wrestlers to help him for this camp.
