Valentina Shevchenko confident Amanda Nunes trilogy will happen one day

Adam D Martin - May 3, 2021

UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is confident that the trilogy fight against her rival Amanda Nunes will happen one day. The calls for a trilogy between Shevchenko and Nunes are high after “Bullet” ran through Jessica Andrade in her last outing at UFC 261. Since moving down to flyweight, Shevchenko is a perfect 7-0, with a 6-0 record in flyweight title fights. The UFC is having trouble finding opponents for Shevchenko as she has been blowing everyone she fights out of the water. The only trouble she has ever had in her UFC career was against Nunes, and thus fans want to see them fight again. The two rivals previously met in 2016 and 2017, with Nunes winning a unanimous decision at UFC 196 and a split decision at UFC 215.

Stephen Thompson confident brother-in-law Chris Weidman will fight in the UFC again

Adam D Martin - May 3, 2021

UFC welterweight contender Stephen Thompson is confident that his brother-in-law Chris Weidman will fight in the UFC Octagon once again. Thompson was in the corner of Weidman last weekend at UFC 261 when he suffered one of the worst injuries we have ever seen in the history of the sport when Weidman broke his leg on a checked kick against Uriah Hall. Immediately after throwing the kick, Weidman’s leg snapped in half and he went down to the mat right away. Weidman was rushed to hospital and had surgery on his leg and is expected to make a full recovery. However, he is unable to walk at the moment and won’t be able to start training hard for 6-12 months.

Prochazka knocked out former title challenger Dominick Reyes this past Saturday night in the main event of UFC Vegas 25. It was another incredible knockout win for Prochazka, who also finished Volkan Oezdemir with strikes to win his UFC debut last summer on Fight Island. Overall, the Czech Republic native is now riding a 12-fight win streak. He has been absolutely destroying everyone in his path at 205lbs and a title shot can’t be far away now.

Adam D Martin - May 3, 2021

UFC women’s strawweight Randa Markos questioned her opponent Luana Pinheiro for not continuing after an illegal upkick at UFC Vegas 25. Pinheiro and Markos met in the headliner of the UFC Vegas 25 preliminary card. Right from the start of the fight, Pinheiro was controlling where the action took place with her grappling skills as she slammed Markos to the mat multiple times. It is also worth noting there was a nasty eye poke where the referee and doctor took a closer look at stopping the fight. In the end, the fight continued, but unfortunately for Markos, it ended very soon after that after she landed an illegal upkick that appeared to knock Pinheiro out.

Adam D Martin - May 3, 2021

UFC welterweight prospect Khamzat Chimaev appears to have a tracheostomy scar following his scary battle with COVID-19 earlier this year. Chimaev was supposed to be one of the UFC’s biggest stars in 2021, but it has been a forgettable year for the young Swede so far. Earlier this year, Chimaev contracted COVID-19 and had to pull out of his scheduled bout with Leon Edwards twice. Chimaev had such a scary situation with his health that he even considered retiring before he got healthier, changed his mind, and decided to return to the sport. He is now targeting a return later this summer or fall and has been calling out Nick Diaz in hopes of a big comeback fight.

Adam D Martin - May 3, 2021

UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas said following her UFC 261 title win, “I love Joanna (Jedrzejczyk) but she gonna be mad.” Namajunas made history last weekend at UFC 261 when she knocked out Weili Zhang with a head kick to become the first two-time women’s champion in UFC history. Namajunas previously held the UFC women’s strawweight title from 2017 to 2019 after she knocked out Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217 and defended it once successfully against Jedrzejczyk until she lost it via slam KO to Jessica Andrade. Now that she has gotten her old belt back, she has no plans on giving it up anytime soon, especially to her old rival Jedrzejczyk.

Dvalishvili won his sixth straight fight as he improved to 6-2 overall in the UFC with the dominant win over Stamann on the main card of UFC Vegas 25. Dvalishvili utilized his powerful takedowns as he always does, but he also showed improved striking in this matchup as Stamann was at times able to match him in the wrestling department. In the end, Dvalishvili walked away with the win and he emerged as a real player at 135lbs.

Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson looks lean and mean ahead of his promotional debut for Bellator next weekend. Johnson was set to make his promotional debut next Friday night against former UFC fighter Yoel Romero at Bellator 258 as part of the promotion’s 205lbs Grand Prix. Unfortunately, Romero had to withdraw from the tournament this week due to a medical issue, which temporarily left Johnson without an opponent. Bellator ended up finding Team Pitbull representative Jose Augusto Azevedo Barros to take the fight on short notice.

Anderson Silva offers advice to Chris Weidman after horrific leg break injury at UFC 261

Adam Martin - May 2, 2021

UFC legend Anderson Silva offered some advice to former rival Chris Weidman after he suffered a horrific leg break injury at UFC 261. Weidman suffered one of the worst injuries we have ever seen in UFC history when he broke his leg on a Uriah Hall checked kick in the first round of their middleweight bout at last weekend’s UFC 261 pay-per-view event. As soon as the kick landed, Weidman went down to the ground in a heap of incredible pain. The former UFC middleweight champion shockingly broke his leg in the same fashion that Silva himself broke it at UFC 168 in 2013. The fact that Weidman broke it in the same exact what is an incredible coincidence.

GSP remembers Jake Shields fight at UFC 129 a decade later: "I was blind for about half the fight"

Adam Martin - May 2, 2021

UFC legend GSP remembered his title fight main event against Jake Shields at UFC 129 a decade after it happened. At the time, UFC 129 on April 30, 2011, was the biggest event in UFC history as over 55,000 fans packed Rogers Centre completely full in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for a record-setting crowd at the time. It was the first UFC event to take place in Ontario after the province legalized MMA and GSP vs. Shields was the main event. At the time, GSP was the biggest star in the sport while Shields was a credible title challenger coming from Strikeforce. It was expected to be a great main event but the fight didn’t deliver for fans.

Adam D Martin - May 2, 2021

UFC featherweight contender Giga Chikadze says he is open to fighting Max Holloway, Calvin Kattar, or Yair Rodriguez for his next fight. Following his win over Cub Swanson at UFC Vegas 25, Chikadze improved to a perfect 6-0 in the UFC, and this win over Swanson via body kick TKO was his best yet. The Georgian has looked incredible since joining the UFC two years ago as he has shown improved grappling to go along with elite striking skills. Chikadze is not a household name just yet but if he keeps knocking his opponents out he will be a big star for the UFC very soon.

UFC featherweight Giga Chikadze celebrated with a bottle of champagne after stopping Cub Swanson with a body kick knockout at UFC Vegas 25. Chikadze had beaten five lower-ranked opponents in his first five fights in the Octagon to earn this high-profile matchup against a true veteran of the sport in Swanson. For Chikadze, it was a huge opportunity to beat one of the best featherweights of all time and show that he’s part of the new breed of 145lbers, and he did just that by winning the fight via first-round knockout. It was a phenomenal performance by Chikadze, who improved to a perfect 6-0 in the Octagon as he appears on the verge of title contention at 145lbs.

Henry Cejudo continues to troll Aljamain Sterling following DQ at UFC Vegas 25: “The Funkmaster era is upon us”

Adam D Martin - May 2, 2021

Henry Cejudo continues to troll Aljamain Sterling following the DQ we witnessed at UFC Vegas 25, saying that “The Funkmaster era is upon us.” In a women’s strawweight bout that took place on the prelims, Brazilian newcomer Luana Pinheiro was absolutely dominating veteran Randa Markos until being kicked in the face with an illegal upkick while she was grounded, leaving her unable to continue and seeing the fight called a DQ. Ironically, the referee in the fight was Mark Smith, who was the same referee in the Petr Yan vs. Sterling title fight back at UFC 259 in March. Just like at that event when he DQed Yan for an illegal knee, Smith DQed Markos for the illegal upkick.

Prochazka came out extremely aggressive in the first round and he had Reyes rocked multiple times on the feet with his strikes, only to finally land the finishing blow in the second round via spinning back elbow KO. It was an absolutely phenomenal performance by Prochazka, who appears to be a serious title contender in the UFC’s light heavyweight division just two fights in to his promotional career. With this type of KO power, he could go very far in this sport.

With that being said, ‘Killer Cub’ had gone just 2-4 over his past six Octagon appearances overall prior to tonight’s contest.

Jan Blachowicz clearly tuned in to watch former RIZIN champion Jiri Prochazka take on his former opponent Dominick Reyes at UFC Vegas 25. Blachowicz (28-8) had of course captured the promotions vacant light heavyweight title by scoring a second round TKO victory over Reyes (12-3 MMA) at UFC 253. The Polish champion has since gone on to successfully defend his title on one occasion, scoring a dominant victory over the previously undefeated Israel Adesanya back in March.
