Holly Holm ended her nearly two-year layoff on Saturday night in the main event of UFC Vegas 55 against Ketlen Vieira. Holm was riding a two-fight win streak and had she beaten Vieira she likely would have been granted a title shot. The bout proved to be very competitive but in the end it was Vieira who was awarded the split decision in a fight that many thought Holm won.
Blood Diamond out of UFC 275 fight against Orion Cosce

Blood Diamond’s second UFC appearance will have to wait. Diamond was set to return at UFC 275 on June 11 in Singapore against Orion Cosce but sources tell BJPENN.com that the Zimbabwean has been forced out of the scrap. It’s uncertain if the UFC will look to rebook the fight or find a replacement for Cosce. This was also the second time the fight has been booked as the two were supposed to meet at UFC 271, but it was Cosce that had to pull out due to an injury.

Mike Winkeljohn was shocked when he heard Ketlen Vieira being announced as the winner in her UFC Vegas 55 main event fight against Holly Holm. Winkeljohn, a coach of Holm, was confident his pupil had won the fight when the final bell rang. It was a close competitive fight, but Holm had nearly double the significant strikes of Vieira and had almost nine more minutes of control so, for Winkeljohn, he doesn’t know how Vieira got her hand raised.

Just a few months ago, Thiago Alves noted that he was interested in defending his BKFC middleweight championship against Mike Perry later this summer – perhaps as early as June. Alas, it doesn’t appear as if that’s going to happen, with an MMA return actually being more likely for Alves now at this stage of his career.

Holly Holm’s team has questioned the legitimacy of the sport following her controversial loss to Ketlen Vieira. Last Saturday night at the UFC Apex, Holly Holm went head to head with Ketlen Vieira in an attempt to extend her current win streak with the promotion to three. Unfortunately for the veteran, she was unable to do so as she fell to a split decision loss with the judges scoring the contest 47-48, 48-47 and 48-47.

Sterling, the current UFC bantamweight champion, had a rally in his hometown of Uniondale, New York as he rode atop a fire truck and waved to everyone in attendance. Along with the parade, Nassau County declared May 23 as Aljamain Sterling Day.

UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira doesn’t want to put a permanent end date on his career. The champion is set to face Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 next month. Ahead of his first title defense, Teixeira stated that he was likely going to retire this year. His ideal year would be a win at UFC 275, then a title defense in Madison Square Garden in November.
