Speaking to MMA Junkie after last weekend’s Bellator 227 card in Dublin, Amirkhani gave his take on McGregor’s prolonged absence. He believes McGregor’s appetite for competition will eventually drive him back to the cage.

First, the former lightweight contender took a short notice welterweight bout against undefeated Alexey Kunchenko and handed him his first loss. A month and a half later, he took another short-notice fight, this time against fellow grappler Gunnar Nelson. He once again got his hand raised.

Jimi Manuwa is feeling the itch to fight again, but he’s not sure if it’s an itch he should scratch. The long-time UFC light heavyweight contender retired in early June, days after an undeniably brutal knockout loss to Aleksandar Rakić. He did so with his health in mind, but admits the urge to dust off his gloves often out-muscles the concern that led him to retire in the first place.

The official UFC rankings have been updated in the wake of last weekend’s action-packed UFC Copenhagen card, and as expected, there have been some interesting changes. Most notably, main event winner Jared Cannonier has rocketed up the middleweight rankings on the strength of his first-round drubbing of Jack Hermansson. He’s now settled at No. 5 in the division, while Hermansson has stumbled to No. 6.

So much so that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is wondering if the Canadian might be intentionally losing weight. When St-Pierre posted a picture of himself enjoying a sushi dinner, Nurmagomedov quickly replied with a simple question.

On Monday, BloodyElbow reported that a warrant had been recently issued for Johnson after he failed to show up for an appointment stemming from a recent domestic violence incident.

The fight, scheduled for UFC 243 this Saturday in Australia, is being billed as the biggest fight in Oceanic history and is also generating massive attention in the Western Hemisphere. Tristar gym head coach Firas Zahabi says that if UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov ends up fighting the legend Georges St. Pierre, it won’t be at 155lbs. Speaking to MMAjunkie.com, Zahabi said he believes “the ship has sailed” on a fight between Nurmagomedov and GSP at lightweight.

Robert Whittaker’s longtime jiu-jitsu coach Alex Prates recently said his pupil is a better version of Georges St-Pierre. “Maybe you’ll see Robert Whittaker using a style that I think is the one that suits him better but he never really needed it because it was always comfortable for him on the feet for most of his fights,” Prates told MMA Fighting, discussing Whittaker’s looming showdown with Israel Adesanya. “With Yoel Romero, for example, it would have been stupid to try to take him down. But Robert has great wrestling and great timing. I honestly think Robert is a better version of GSP. And we might see this now.”
