Bantamweight contender Jose Aldo says he will never fight for another MMA promotion outside the UFC, saying “It is not a question of money.” Aldo returns to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC Vegas 17 when he takes on the surging Marlon Vera in the evening’s co-main event. For Aldo, this is an extremely important fight. The former UFC featherweight champion has fallen on hard times as of late, dropping three straight fights. With the UFC cutting 60 fighters from its roster and with fellow Brazilians such as Junior dos Santos and Ronaldo Souza likely exiting the Octagon, some have suggested Aldo could also be released with a loss to Vera.

However, due to visa issues, the fight was delayed but for “Chito” he is just glad the fight got made.

Now, multiple sources told BJPENN.com that the fight has been rebooked for December 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has opened up on the controversial referee stoppage that ended his recent bantamweight title fight with Petr Yan. Aldo and Yan fought for the bantamweight title, which was left vacant when Henry Cejudo retired earlier this year, in the first of three title fights on the UFC 251 bill in July.

In the main event of the stacked UFC 251 card on Fight Island, Kamaru Usman was looking to defend his welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal. The co-main attraction saw Alex Volkanovski and Max Holloway have their immediate rematch for the featherweight strap. And, in the third and final title fight Petr Yan took on Jose Aldo for the promotions vacant bantamweight strap. In the end, Usman defended his belt for the second time in dominant fashion, winning all five rounds on two judges scorecards. In the co-main, Volkanovski narrowly edged out a split decision win, and Yan became the new Bantamweight champion with a fifth-round TKO win over Aldo.

Like many fight fans, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was disgusted to watch Petr Yan deliver unnecessary punishment to Jose Aldo at UFC 251. Although it was no fault of the newly crowned Russian champion in Yan, the referee allowed Petr to tee off on a seemingly helpless Aldo for almost two minutes before finally stepping in to stop the contest.

The former featherweight kingpin made his bantamweight debut at UFC 245, where he suffered a split decision loss to Marlon Moraes. Although he lost the decision, UFC President Dana White felt Aldo had won his fight with ‘Magic’ and thus awarded Jose with the opportunity to fight for the vacant 135lbs strap.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is looking absolutely shredded for his upcoming bantamweight title fight against Petr Yan at UFC 251. UFC president Dana White gave Aldo the title shot over the other top contenders at 135lbs including Aljamain Sterling, and fans and media have been critical of that decision by the UFC. Despite being a legend of the sport, Aldo has lost his last two fights to Marlon Moraes and Alex Volkanovski, so for Aldo to get a crack at the belt over the other top contenders in the bantamweight division is certainly a controversial decision from the organization.
