Jon Anik responds to accusations of biased commentary against Cris Cyborg

Jon Anik has issued a statement following fan criticism of biased commentary in the UFC 240 co-main event between Cris Cyborg and Felicia Spencer. In what was likely the final fight of her UFC career, Cris Cyborg defeated Felicia Spencer via unanimous decision. While it was a gutsy performance from the Canadian, there was no doubt that the Brazilian legend had done enough to get the judges decision.

On Saturday night, in the co-main event of UFC 235, Kamaru Usman authored a dominant decision victory over long-time UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley. During the fight referee Marc Goddard continually stood Usman and Woodley up, oftentimes when some onlookers felt it wasn’t necessary. UFC commentator Jon Anik, who was on duty for the card, shares that opinion. Yes! Wildly inconsistent. And Usman was working his ass off.

Broadcast and commentary teams revealed for UFC on ESPN 1

On Sunday, February 17, the UFC will make its debut on ESPN with an exciting, 13-fight card. In a recent press release, ESPN revealed the commentary and broadcast teams for this debut UFC on ESPN card. Jon Anik and Dominick Cruz will call the fights from cage-side, while Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping and Karyn Bryant will man the broadcast desk, and Megan Olivi will handle reporting. UFC fighters Fabricio Werdum and Brandon Moreno will join Victor Dávila on the Spanish language broadcast.

Jon Anik signs four-year contract extension with the UFC

With the UFC leaving Fox and entering the ESPN era, changes were expected. One big question heading into this transition is how the UFC broadcast team would be affected. Well, at the very least, UFC play-by-play man Jon Anik will be staying on board. According to MMAJunkie, Jon Anik will be calling UFC fights for at least the next four years.

When Jon Anik hunkers down at the broadcast booth to call a UFC event, he’s typically joined by one of two fighters. One is former UFC lightweight and featherweight title challenger Kenny Florian. The other is former UFC middleweight Brian Stann. Both are long retired. Today, however, news broke that Anik will be joined by two active fighters in the near future – both of whom happen to be reigning world champions.
