However, it seems the former interim welterweight champion has other opponents he wants afterward. ‘Chaos’ has notably said that he would like to fight Kamaru Usman if he beats ‘Gamebred’ next week. Covington would like a trilogy fight against his Nigerian foe despite the fact that he’s down 0-2 in the series. The fight does remain a possibility though, as his performance in both bouts earned praise.

The two champions have gone back and forth over the past few years. ‘The Last Stylebender’ intended to eventually move up to challenge ‘Bones’ for a 205-pound grudge match. However, the proposed superfight has been postponed as a result of Jones’ impending move to the heavyweight division.

The highly anticipated middleweight title fight rematch proved to be a hard fought back and forth affair. Israel Adesanya seemingly got the better of Robert Whittaker in the opening ten minutes, even dropping ‘The Reaper’ with a right hand in the opening frame. However, Whittaker would start to turn the tide in round three and then appeared to get the better of ‘Stylebender’ in rounds four and five. After twenty-five minutes of action the bout went to the judges scorecards for decision and Adesanya was awarded the win.
