UFC light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira explained how he overcame obstacles in his career to earn a title shot at age 41. Teixeira is 41 years old which makes him one of the oldest fighters on the UFC roster in 2021. However, despite his age, he has been absolutely destroying everyone in his path, winning his last five fights in a row en route to getting a title shot against UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in September at UFC 266. It’s incredible that Teixeira has now been in the UFC for nearly 10 years and yet remains fighting at such a high level despite many of his contemporaries falling off the map in recent years.

UFC light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira has issued a statement after his title fight with Jan Blachowicz was announced for UFC 266. Teixeira vs. Blachowicz will collide at UFC 266 with the 205lbs belt on the line. Soon after the fight with Teixeira and Blachowicz was announced, the veteran Brazilian took to social media to issue a statement about earning his second career UFC title shot. Read it below.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz will defend his title on September 4 when he fights No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira at UFC 266. Blachowicz defeated UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in his first title defense back at UFC 259 in March. Following the fight, UFC president Dana White made it clear that Teixeira would be next in line to fight for the belt. After Blachowicz requested six months off to rest and recover after the Adesanya fight, the promotion granted his wishes and he will return this fall when he takes on Teixeira for all the gold. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report this Blachowicz vs. Teixeira fight. The venue or location has not been determined, but it seems likely that fans will be in attendance for this fight either way.

Jan Blachowicz knows his next opponent will be Glover Teixeira. After Blachowicz beat Israel Adesanya at UFC 259 to defend his belt for the first time, he knew that Teixeira would be his next opponent. Blachowicz knows the Brazilian deserves the next title shot based on the strength of his five straight wins in the UFC, but when the two rivals do meet, the champ is confident he will be better everywhere than Teixeira.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz said he wants a long layoff after beating Israel Adesanya and called for Glover Teixeira next. Blachowicz pulled off a big upset when he was able to win a unanimous decision over Adesanya in the main event of UFC 259. Blachowicz was counted out by so many people once again leading into this matchup, but he proved he’s the superior mixed martial artist by putting on an absolutely dominant performance over the course of 25 minutes. The win over Adesanya’s marks Blachowicz’s first UFC title defense, with his second likely coming later this year. He just wants to take a break first after going five rounds with Adesanya.

UFC light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira explained why he turned down the chance to fight at UFC 259 for the backup role instead. The 41-year-old Teixeira is currently the No. 1 contender in the UFC light heavywight division following a submission win over Thiago Santos in his last fight. The Brazilian has won his last five straight fights and many analysts thought he should have been next in line to fight UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz. Instead, the UFC decided to give the next title shot at 205lbs to Israel Adesanya. Blachowicz and Adesanya will now headline UFC 259 on March 6, with Teixeira flying to Las Vegas to serve as a backup for the fight.

Although it is a massive fight, many fans believed Teixeira should’ve gotten the title shot. Yet, that was not the case but the Brazilian will weigh-in as the official backup fighter for the main event.

Teixeira defeated No. 1 contender Thiago Santos via third-round rear-naked choke submission in the main event of UFC Vegas 13. It’s the fifth straight win for the 41-year-old Teixeira, who smashed Anthony Smith in his last fight and who also had recent wins over Nikita Krylov, Ion Cutelaba, and Karl Roberson. Following the win over Santos, Teixeira used his post-fight interview as an opportunity to call for a title shot at 205lbs.

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 13 event was headlined by a key light heavyweight bout featuring former division title challengers Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira. Santos (21-8 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since UFC 239 in July of 2019, where he suffered a split-decision setback in his effort to dethrone Jon Jones of the promotions light heavyweight title. Prior to the setback, which left ‘Marreta’ needing knee surgery, the Brazilian had strung together a four-fight winning streak. During that impressive run Thiago Santos had picked up a TKO victory over reigning light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.
