UFC president Dana White called this weekend’s rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier the biggest non-title fight in UFC history. UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor 2 takes place on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night. Unsurprisingly, White has already said that the pay-per-view is trending in the right direction, and it could potentially sell upwards of two million PPVs. Even though there is no title on the line, the fact that McGregor is competing is automatically a huge boost for the PPV, and the fact that he’s fighting a stud like Poirier makes this weekend’s main event a must-watch.

Eminem is one of the most famous artists on the planet and his music is being used during the promos for this weekend’s UFC 257 card. On Thursday, ESPN SportsCenter was able to get the chance to talk to Eminem, and White joined them. Following their appearance on the podcast, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub posted a short clip from the interaction between Eminem and White. UFC president Dana White confirmed the promotion is targeting Jon Jones to return this summer to fight for the UFC heavyweight title. Jones vacated the UFC light heavyweight title last summer in a bid to move up to the UFC’s heaviest weight class and make history by winning a second title. “Bones” has spent the last six months bulking up in preparation for his heavyweight debut, and he recently posted photos indicating he currently weighs 250lbs. It appears Jones is putting the finishing touches on his new physique as he is just months away from making his heavyweight debut.

Nurmagomedov last fought in October, when he defended the UFC lightweight title with a second-round submission victory over Justin Gaethje. After that fight, he announced his retirement from MMA.

UFC President Dana White believes Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor need to fight again because it’s “important to both of their legacies.” Nurmagomedov and McGregor first fought in 2018, in the main event of UFC 229, the highest-grossing pay-per-view in the company’s history. Nurmagomedov won that initial meeting via fourth-round submission.

UFC president Dana White says Jon Jones will get the winner of the upcoming heavyweight title bout between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. Jones vacated the UFC light heavyweight title last summer, announcing a move up to heavyweight for 2021 after a decade of dominance at 205lbs. Some thought he might even skip by Ngannou in the title shot queue, but the UFC is rightfully giving Ngannou the next crack at the belt. It was revealed over the weekend that the UFC is targeting Miocic and Ngannou to hold their rematch at UFC 260 on March 27, and Jones may face the winner of that bout.

UFC middleweight Alessio Di Chirico thanked UFC president Dana White for his “Performance of the Night” bonus after initially snubbing him. Di Chirico picked up a huge upset win when he finished rising star Joaquin Buckley via first-round KO on the UFC on ABC 1 main card. The Italian had lost three straight fights coming into the Buckley matchup and many fans and media believed this was a set-up fight designed for Buckley to continue building his star power. Unfortunately for Buckley, he was on the wrong end of a highlight-reel knockout when Di Chirico kicked him in the face with his shin.

UFC president Dana White claimed that Khabib Nurmagomedov “isn’t interested” in a potential fight with UFC legend Georges St-Pierre. Nurmagomedov was expected to give White a ‘yes or no’ answer in regards to the lightweight champ’s potential comeback, but that didn’t happen. White said on the UFC on ABC 1 broadcast that we will find out more about the Russian’s plans for a comeback following UFC 257 next week. According to White, the lightweight champion is keeping a very close eye on the headliners Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, making no mention of the legend St-Pierre.

UFC president Dana White admitted that he was bothered by how much damage Calvin Kattar took against Max Holloway at UFC on ABC 1. Kattar was on the wrong end of a historic beating at the hands, elbows, feet and, knees of Holloway, who systematically beat Kattar down over the course of five rounds, setting numerous UFC records in the process. Although there are many ways to win in MMA, by about the third or fourth round it became clear that Kattar had no chance of winning this fight. But his corner didn’t throw in the towel despite their fighter taking incredible damage in the match.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov heaped praise on Justin Gaethje during today’s meeting with Dana White on Fight Island. The undefeated Russian, Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA), met with the UFC President earlier today in Abu Dhabi to discuss his future. ‘The Eagle’ had of course stunned fans by announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts immediately following his submission victory over Justin Gaethje this past September.

Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA) had retired from mixed martial arts immediately following his submission victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. ‘The Eagle’ cited the death of his father as one of the major reasons behind his decision to walk away.
