Barber (8-2 MMA) had entered last night’s co-headliner in hopes of rebounding from her first career loss as a professional. ‘The Future’ was coming off a unanimous decision setback to veteran Roxanne Modafferi in her most previous effort at UFC 246.

The women’s mixed martial arts icon, Carano (7-1 MMA), was fired by Lucasfilm on Wednesday after sharing what the company deemed as “abhorrent” and “unacceptable” posts on social media.

After a three-year hiatus, The Ultimate Fighter franchise returns in 2021 on ESPN. White has promised the classic show will return with a bang and has been teasing its comeback for more than a year. COVID-19 pushed filming back, but the show is scheduled to get started taping in the next couple of months. The promotion is also close to making a decision on who the next coaches are.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed he has a new meeting with Dana White, and suggested the lightweight division “needs to go on.” Nurmagomedov announced his retirement last fall following a submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, but he left open the door for a return pending the outcome of UFC 257’s main event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. White was angling hard for Nurmagomedov to have a big-money rematch with McGregor, but once Poirier knocked him out and ended all hopes of it happening anytime soon, the Russian told White that he doesn’t see any challengers out there for him. As good as Poirier is, Nurmagomedov already finished him.

With a potential UFC bantamweight title shot on the line, Sandhagen needed to make a good impression with White and the UFC matchmakers watching intently. He did just that and more when he landed an incredible flying knee right to the chin of Edgar, knocking him out cold. It was one of the best knockouts of the year thus far, and it could be just what the doctor ordered for Sandhagen to get his title shot, as White was impressed by the finish. The Russian told White that he wanted to watch UFC 257 and see if anyone really made a statement on the card, but he has made no guarantee he will fight again. White said this week that one of the biggest illegal streaming websites was under surveillance by the UFC, and ultimately that website did not put up the event. On Saturday night at UFC 257, Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor in brutal fashion in the second round to pick up a massive upset win. As well, Michael Chandler had an incredible UFC debut in the co-main event when he knocked out Octagon veteran Dan Hooker. Along with Charles Oliveira, these are the fighters who are currently vying for a fight with Nurmagomedov. But the opportunity to fight the champ might not come if he vacates his title.
