Long-time UFC bantamweight contender Raphael Assuncao has issued a quick statement on his violent, knockout loss to Cody Garbrandt. Assuncao and Garbrandt, the former UFC bantamweight champion, met in the co-main event of UFC 250 last Saturday night at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas. Assuncao had some success early, out-landing his foe in round one, but fell victim to a highlight reel, one-punch knockout in the final second of round two.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt says he wants a trilogy fight with long-time rival TJ Dillashaw when he returns from his USADA suspension. Garbrandt and Dillashaw have fought twice previously, with Dillashaw getting the better of Garbrandt both times. The two first locked horns at UFC 217, with Dillashaw scoring an upset with via second-round TKO. The two then rematched at UFC 227, with Dillashaw once again winning, this time by first-round TKO. Garbrandt would go on to lose his next fight to Pedro Munhoz by knockout, as well. As for Dillashaw, he tested positive for PEDs after a flyweight fight against Henry Cejudo and was suspended for two years.

Garbrandt revealed this weekend that his plan is to fight Raphael Assuncao in his last bout at 135lbs before making the move down to 125lbs. UFC bantamweight stars Petr Yan and Cody Garbrandt had to be separated backstage at UFC 245 after getting into a heated argument. In the first fight on the main pay-per-view card, Yan picked up the biggest win of his young career to date when he knocked out aging legend Urijah Faber with a head kick in the third round of their bantamweight affair. The win improves Yan’s MMA record to 14-1 with a perfect 6-0 mark in the UFC. He is currently riding a nine-fight win streak.

Dillashaw recently appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show to address his failed drug test for recombinant human erythropoietin, which he used to get down to 125 pounds for his fight with Henry Cejudo at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in January.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is injured and will not be able to return to the Octagon until 2020 after he undergoes surgery. Garbrandt tore a tendon in a training session last week and he will not be able to resume training until he has surgery and recovers from it. He was previously on track to return in late 2019, but will now be sidelined until next year.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is maintaining that he knew his arch rival TJ Dillashaw was using banned substances. The surprise, Garbrandt says, was not that Dillashaw tested positive, but that it took so long for him to get caught. Garbrandt believes that Dillashaw was able to evade detection because the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) doesn’t adequately test for EPO, the substance he was using.

Although former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt was unable to compete at UFC Fight Night 155 in Sacramento, he attended the event as a guest fighter and spoke to the media to give an update on his health. Speaking to reporters backstage, Garbrandt said he hopes to return to the Octagon before the end of the year. The Team Alpha Male product has not competed since getting knocked out by Pedro Munhoz at UFC 235 in March. It was his third straight loss inside the Octagon, all by knockout.

Conor McGregor recently took to Twitter where he shared his reaction to the two-year suspension handed down on TJ Dillashaw by USADA. Earlier this afternoon, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that TJ Dillashaw’s positive test, which forced him to vacate his bantamweight title, was a result of the banned substance EPO. Consequently, Dillashaw has received a two-year suspension as a result. This suspension is dated retroactively to January 18, 2019.
