UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush could fight for gold sooner than expected. The 33-year-old has been out of action since his decision victory over Tony Ferguson last May. Since that time, Dariush has had a failed booking with Islam Makhachev. The matchup was viewed as a title-eliminator but was canceled after the Iranian fighter suffered an injury.

Beneil Dariush will be making his return in October. According to ESPN, Dariush is set to fae Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi on October 22. It’s a pivotal fight for the lightweight division and according to Dariush, it is a title eliminator. The main event of the card sees the lightweight title up for grabs as Charles Oliveira takes on Islam Makhachev.

Dustin Poirier says it is fake news that he is fighting Beneil Dariush his next time out. After the UFC booked Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title, it was uncertain who Dariush would fight next given he was booked to face Makhachev earlier this year before he suffered an injury. Dariush’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz then revealed the UFC was working on a matchup between him and Poirier.

Ali Abdelaziz believes Beneil Dariush deserves a big fight as his year-long wait for a return to the Octagon continues. In May 2021 at UFC 262, Beneil Dariush defeated Tony Ferguson via unanimous decision to put himself in line for a major fight at lightweight. Ever since then he’s been waiting to get back in the cage and was gearing up to do so in February, only for a bout against Islam Makhachev to fall through as a result of him sustaining an ankle injury.

After Ferguson suffered a KO loss to Michael Chandler which was his fourth loss in a row, he said he would be searching for a team and a gym to train with. He had mostly been a lone wolf for the majority of his career and for Dariush who has beaten Ferguson on his skid, he believes that is the best idea for him.

Former UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor doesn’t seem to be a fan of Beneil Dariush. Over the last week, Dariush has taken shots at both McGregor and Charles Oliveira. The Brazilian has repeatedly called out the former champion for a future contest. ‘Do Bronx’ has been granted a title opportunity for his next bout and would like that to come against the Irishman.

He was then scheduled to face Islam Makhachev earlier this year. However, the fight fell through after Dariush pulled out due to injury.

According to MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani and later confirmed by sources to BJPENN, Dariush suffered an injury and has been forced out of the fight. It’s uncertain if Makhachev will remain on the card or if another fight will headline next Saturday’s event.

Hooker managed to get back on the winning trail last weekend with a nice win over Nasrat Haqparast in Las Vegas. He had to rely on his wrestling to do it but after going through such a gruelling process just to get to fight night, it made sense that “Hangman” wanted to do everything in his power to ensure he walked away with the win.

Oliveira and Dariush are two of the best fighters in the world at 155lbs right now and it feels like they will eventually meet inside the Octagon. But if you ask Dariush, he is hoping that this fight takes place much sooner rather than later.
