With a win over Poirier, it’s expected that McGregor will call out UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for a rematch. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather get heated on social media
Tom Taylor - July 24, 2019
In May of 2015, Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao in one of the biggest fights in boxing history — although the action itself was not particularly memorable. More than four years later, when Mayweather is ostensibly retired and Pacquiao is enjoying a major resurgence at 40 years old, there is still widespread interest in a rematch between them.
Manny Pacquiao discusses a potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather
Adam D Martin - July 21, 2019
On Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman via split decision to become the new WBA welterweight champion. It was the third win in a row for Pacquiao, who at age 40 doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. As soon as the fight was over, there was already talk of a potential rematch against fellow boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Pacquiao and Mayweather met back in 2015 in what turned out to be one of the biggest money fights of all time in combat sports. The fight itself wasn’t anything special, and Mayweather got his hand raised by unanimous decision in what was a disappointing fight for fans who wanted to be more entertained. However, there’s been talk of a rematch ever since then due to the potential riches, and now that Pacquiao has beaten Thurman, expect those talks to ramp up again.

RIZIN boss hints at upcoming deal with Manny Pacquiao
Tom Taylor - April 7, 2019
Back in December, RIZIN Fight Federation flew undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. out to Tokyo to battle one of its brightest young stars, Tenshin Nasukawa, in an exhibition match. Unfortunately for RIZIN, this plan seemed to backfire, as Mayweather walloped the much smaller Nasukawa to a first round knockout. Despite the seemingly disastrous end to this Floyd Mayweather vs. Tenshin Nasukawa fight, RIZIN does not appear to be done flirting with top-level boxers.

One of the stops on the Filipino boxer’s trip to LA was a Clippers game, where he crossed paths with one of the chief rivals of his career, Floyd Mayweather. Tom Taylor - December 31, 2018
On New Years Even in Japan (Monday morning in North America), undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. stepped through the ropes of the RIZIN Fighting Federation ring for a strange exhibition bout with 20-year-old kickboxing ace Tenshin Nasukawa. In the weeks leading up to this exhibition bout — and really, until the very point the contest began — Floyd Mayweather looked like he was taking it all about as seriously as a walk to the bank (in the eyes of some fans, it wasn’t much more than that). Once the action began, however, the American boxer cranked up the offense, punishing his much smaller opponent with ferocious power shots the likes of which he hasn’t thrown in years. Suddenly, it seemed as though he was taking the fight very seriously.

At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to what Conor McGregor decides to do next. UFC interim lightweight champion is expecting to unify his belt against the man, meanwhile he’s got a list of boxers wanting to do business with him. Floyd Mayweather was quick to shoot down rumors of him coming into the UFC, while Manny Pacquiao wanted to get McGregor back in the boxing ring. The Irishman himself claims it is an MMA fight that’s next, so Bruce Buffer brings up the idea of Pacquiao meeting the champ in the Octagon instead. “All respect to Manny Pacquiao, one of my favorite boxers of all time. I think, for me personally, the [Floyd] Mayweather/Conor McGregor fight was the fight that we all enjoyed and got our $100 worth of entertainment. I would rather much see Conor get back into MMA. It excites me much more. I mean, let’s see a boxer want to step up and fight under MMA rules and fight Conor in the Octagon, and it might be another tremendously huge payday.”

Although White may have tried to kill the possibility of the matchup, it’s surely a big topic for fans and pundits to talk about. Fight Hub TV recently spoke with Pacquiao’s coach Freddie Roach on the matchup and the legendary boxing trainer said that although there is a lot of money to be made in the superfight, he isn’t all that interested in it.
