Dos Santos (21-9 MMA) was handed his walking papers from UFC officials shortly after suffering a TKO loss to Ciryl Gane in December of 2020. The setback had marked the former champions fourth in a row, with all 4 of those losses coming by way of stoppage.

UFC Vegas 42 weigh-in results: Headliners on point but two fighters miss weight

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 42 took place on Friday in Las Vegas, and 20 of the 22 fighters scheduled to compete have made weight. In the main event, both headliners in Max Holloway and Yair Rodriguez successfully made weight for their featherweight bout. Holloway stepped onto the scale at 146lbs while Rodriguez was 145.5lbs, so the UFC Vegas 42 main event is now official.

Gaethje defeated Michael Chandler on the UFC 268 main card to likely become the next man to fight for the belt at 155lbs, which is currently owned by UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. Poirier and Oliveira meet next month in the main event of UFC 269, and Gaethje is hoping that he gets to face the winner of that matchup for the belt. However, he is unsure if Poirier would actually go ahead and fight him again.

It was a phenomenal fight by both men, who went the distance in an all-out war, but at the end of the 15 minutes, it was Gaethje who was the winner on the judges’ scorecards. He maintains his No. 2 spot in the UFC lightweight division rankings and he hopes that it’s enough for him to get the next title shot against the winner of UFC 269’s Dustin Poirier vs. Charles Oliveira fight.

MMA analyst Chael Sonnen reacted after former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar suffered a KO loss to Marlon Vera at UFC 268. Edgar fought Vera on the main card of last Saturday’s UFC 268 pay-per-view event. The first round saw Edgar control Vera with his wrestling and take it, while the second round saw Edgar do some more work with his grappling before Vera came back to steal it late. Two of the judges had the fight 1-1 and another had it 2-0 for Edgar heading into the third and final round, but the judges were taken out of the equation when Vera connected on a brutal front kick and knocked Edgar out late in the third stanza.
