While he may have enjoyed an incredible year back in 2019, things haven’t quite gone to plan for Jorge Masvidal ever since then. ‘Gamebred’ has lost three straight fights, two to Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title and one to rival Colby Covington. Many have wondered whether or not he’s got what it takes to get back to the top of the 170-pound division, and most importantly, have wondered how motivated he is to do so.

Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev have reacted to the release of a new promo video for their UFC 279 main event. On September 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nate Diaz will compete in the final fight on his UFC contract when he battles Khamzat Chimaev in what should be a mammoth showdown in Sin City. The contest is considered to be a mismatch by many with Chimaev being viewed as the clear favourite, but we all know counting someone like Diaz out before the fight has even begun is a mistake.

Sam Alvey has revealed that he suffered a broken jaw “from the damn first punch” Michal Oleksiejczuk hit him with at UFC Vegas 59. Alvey (33-18-1 MMA) had entered last night’s contest sporting an eight-fight winless skid, his most previous effort resulting in a submission loss to Brendan Allen back in February. ‘Smile’n Sam’ had last tasted victory June of 2018, when he earned a split-decision victory over Gian Villante.

Charles Oliveira revealed his father’s emotional reaction to the news that he was stripped of the UFC lightweight gold. Back in May, Oliveira lost the 155-pound championship but it wasn’t due to losing a bout. At the UFC 274 weigh-ins, “do Bronx” missed weight by just half a pound. He was stripped of the gold but he ended up fighting Justin Gaethje and choked him out in the first round.

On the main card of UFC Vegas 59, Usman went one-on-one with Zac Pauga to determine the TUF 30 heavyweight winner. Usman ended up knocking Pauga out cold in the second round to lay claim to the label of TUF champion.

Tonight’s main event proved to be another strong showing for the highly touted Jamahal Hill. Although he had to battle some adversity, ‘Sweet Dreams’ was able to secure a finish over ‘Marreta’ in round four, this after Santos appeared to be mounting a comeback in the third frame. The win marked Hill’s eleventh career victory and fifth under the UFC banner.
