Kevin Holland is frustrated that his UFC Vegas 5 fight against Trevin Giles was cancelled and he wants everybody to know about it. The middleweight prospect’s fight against Giles was cancelled at the last minute after his opponent fainted just moments before his walkout. Holland explained how he discovered the disappointing news and vented that he wants to “bite somebody’s ear off’ or “eat their kids”.

In the main event of the evening, Brunson pulled off a stunning upset as he was able to defeat highly-touted prospect Edmen Shahbazyan via third-round TKO. Brunson was a +300 betting underdog heading into the fight and not many gave him a chance to win. Despite the odds being stacked against him, Brunson dominated Shahbazyan with his wrestling and ground-and-pound to pick up one of his most impressive wins yet.

UFC bantamweight contenders Sean O’Malley and Cody Garbandt got into it again on Twitter, continuing to trade shots with each other. O’Malley and Garbrandt traded shots on Friday night, with O’Malley warning Garbrandt he would knock him out if they fight. Garbrandt fired back at O’Malley, joking about his ranking at the bottom of the top-15 and saying he will run both 125lbs and 135lbs by the end of next year. The shots continued into Saturday as both men continued to trade shots with each other on social media.

UFC heavyweight prospect Tanner Boser will make a quick return to the Octagon when he takes on former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski this fall. Boser just picked up two quick wins by KO over Phillipe Lins and Raphael Pessoa in June and July, respectively, and the UFC matchmakers evidently want to keep him busy. The Canadian heavyweight prospect, who earned a $50,000 bonus for the Pessoa KO on Fight Island, will face off against arguably the toughest test of his career to date when he takes on Arlovski. The fight will take place on October 3 at a location that has yet to be determined.

UFC middleweight Trevin Giles has released a statement after fainting before his fight against Kevin Holland at UFC Vegas 5. Giles was set to open up the main card against Holland. However, he fainted while getting ready to walk to the Octagon and the fight was called off at the last second. Giles woke up soon after and said that he still wanted to take the fight, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission called the fight off due to the health and safety of Giles, who also works as a police officer in Houston.

UFC president Dana White confirmed that Jennifer Maia is next in line to fight UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. Maia picked up the biggest win of her UFC career to date when she tapped out Joanne Calderwood with a first-round armbar at UFC Vegas 5. The victory improved Maia to 3-2 overall in the UFC, with previous victories over Roxanne Modafferi and Alexis Davis. By beating Calderwood, who was next in line to fight Shevchenko before taking this short-notice fight, Maia has elevated herself to an elite position at women’s 125lbs.
Dana White confirms fighters involved in cancelations at UFC Vegas 5 will not receive show money

UFC president Dana White confirmed that the six fighters who were involved in last-minute cancellations at UFC Vegas 5 will not be paid their show money. A planned light heavyweight bout between Ed Herman and Gerald Meerschaert was canceled earlier in the day on Saturday after Meerschaert tested positive for COVID-19. Later on in the night, a middleweight bout between Kevin Holland and Trevin Giles was scrapped after Giles fainted backstage while walking to the Octagon.

UFC middleweight prospect Edmen Shahbazyan has released a statement following his third-round TKO loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 5. Shahbazyan’s first UFC main event did not go as planned. After a strong start in the first round, the 22-year-old Californian began to fade badly in the second round. Brunson turned on the gas and hurt Shahbazyan, nearly finishing him with ground and pound just before the end of the second round. The fight somehow was allowed to enter the third round, but referee Herb Dean decided he had finally seen enough and stopped the fight early in the third and final round after Shahbazyan ate a few more big shots.
