The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 13, a 10-bout fight card headlined by Thiago Silva taking on Glover Teixeira. Santos (21-8 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since UFC 239 in July of 2019, where he suffered a split-decision setback in his effort to dethrone Jon Jones of the promotions light heavyweight title. Prior to the setback, which left ‘Marreta’ needing knee surgery, the Brazilian had strung together a four-fight winning streak. During that impressive run Thiago Santos had picked up a TKO victory over reigning light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.

Newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz was clearly watching tonight’s UFC Vegas 13 headliner between Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira. Blachowicz most previous loss had comes at the hands of Santos back in February of 2019, so it was no surprise he tuned in to catch the scrap.

On Saturday night, the UFC will return to our screens with the under-the-radar UFC Vegas 13 card out of the Apex facility. The card, which will air on ESPN+, will be headlined by a light heavyweight scrap between former title challengers Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos. UFC light heavyweight Thiago Santos believes he can steal back the next title shot from Israel Adesanya with a finish over Glover Teixeira. Santos takes on Teixeira in a five-round main event of this weekend’s UFC on ESPN+ 40 event. Santos is the No. 1 ranked contender at 205lbs and Teixeira is ranked No. 3, so the general consensus among fans and media is that this is a title eliminator. However, that looks like it’s not the case anymore after UFC president Dana White recently said that Adesanya is getting the next title shot at the 205lbs belt that Blachowicz wears.

The full betting odds have been released for the 12 fights scheduled to take place at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 40: Santos vs. Teixeira event. The main event sees two of the top-five light heavyweights in the UFC go at it when Thiago Santos fights Glover Teixeira. Santos has not fought since July 2019, when he lost a close split decision to former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 239. He has missed the last 16 months due to injuries. As for Teixeira, despite being 41 years old, he’s looking better than ever, winning four straight including a vicious TKO victory over Anthony Smith back at UFC Jacksonville in May.

Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira were first set to headline a Fight Night card on Sept. 12 yet Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19 and the fight was moved to Oct. 3. Unfortunately, Santos tested positive for COVID-19 leaving the fight to be re-booked to headline a Nov. 7 Fight Night card according to ESPN.

Santos was set to square off with Glover Teixeira in a vital showdown between two of the division’s top stars on October 3, but due to “Marreta” testing positive for Coronavirus, that date will no longer be possible. It comes just over a month after Teixeira himself tested positive for the virus.

UFC light heavyweight contender Thiago Santos has been forced out of his upcoming October 3 fight against Glover Teixeira. According to a report from Globo’s Marcelo Barone, Santos tested positive for COVID-19 and his fight against Teixeira set for the October 3 card on Fight Island has been scrapped. Ironically, Santos and Teixeira were supposed to meet at UFC on ESPN+ 35 this past weekend, but Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19 and the fight had to be rescheduled. Unfortunately, the other half of the fight in Santos has also tested positive.
