UFC Rankings update: Jiri Prochazka debuts on P4P list, Glover Teixeira slides seven spots

Following UFC 275, there have been major changes in the UFC rankings this week. Jiri Prochazka (29-3 MMA) has made his debut on the UFC P4P rankings list, coming in at # 11. This of course follows his victory over Glover Teixeira (33-8 MMA) last Saturday night in Kallang, Singapore. It was in round five, with only 28 seconds left on the clock that Prochazka finished Teixeira via rear-naked choke, becoming the Czech Republic’s first ever UFC champion.

Kyle Daukaus figured he would be fighting Julian Marquez next. Daukaus and Marquez were originally booked to fight on February 19, but Marquez was forced to withdraw and Jamie Pickett stepped up. Daukaus ended up winning by first-round submission and after the victory, he figured he would be rebooked against Marquez. Instead, he was booked against Dolidze, who he was supposed to face last November.

It was Jiri Prochazka (29-3 MMA) vs Glover Teixeira (33-8 MMA) in the light heavyweight main event this past weekend at UFC 275. The result was a win for Prochazka, and his equally impressive 13th win in a row in the Octagon.

Last Saturday night at UFC 275, Jiri Prochazka submitted Glover Teixeira in the fifth round to capture the UFC light heavyweight title in an all-time classic. These two warriors went back and forth at one another for the better part of 25 minutes and in the end, it was the young challenger that came out on top.

Throughout the course of his run at 205 pounds, Jon Jones was able to accomplish some pretty incredible things. In addition to being a two-time champion, he also successfully defended the title 11 times and has never lost a title fight in his career.

Cruz and Vera are set to headline a Fight Night card on August 13 in San Diego in a crucial fight for the bantamweight division. The winner could very well get a title shot and for O’Malley, who fought Vera, he believes Cruz is just too skilled for ‘Chito.’

Aljamain Sterling believes Jiri Prochazka is playing a dangerous game with the way he fights. Prochazka became the new UFC light heavyweight champion at UFC 275 when he submitted Glover Teixeira in the fifth round. It was a back-and-forth fight and although Prochazka got his hand raised, Sterling thinks the Czech Republic native is playing Russian roulette with the way he fights.

Chael Sonnen believes that former dual-weight champion Conor McGregor not fighting until 2023 is a good thing. The Irishman has been out of action since his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last July at UFC 264. That trilogy bout ended up being a disastrous night for McGregor, as he lost via TKO due to injury. The former champion broke his leg in the closing seconds of round one.

Floyd Mayweather set to return to RIZIN FF, faces Mikuru Asakura

Floyd Mayweather will be returning to Japan to fight for RIZIN FF. Mayweather who fought kickboxing phenom Tenshin Nasukawa and knocked him out under the RIZIN FF banner in December of 2019, has struck another deal with the promotion. RIZIN FF announced that Mayweather will take on MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in an exhibition boxing match in September.

UFC champion Valentina Shevchenko has issued a warning to fellow flyweights who view her as beatable. It was at UFC 275 this past weekend where Valentina Shevchenko (23-3 MMA) went up against Taila Santos (19-2 MMA) in the women’s flyweight co-main event. It was to be Shevchenko narrowly defending her title via split decision. The champion’s late push was enough to secure her a win by scores of 48-47, 47-48 and 49-46.

Joe Lauzon is glad he and Donald Cerrone will finally be sharing the Octagon together. Lauzon and Cerrone were supposed to fight at UFC 274 on May 7, but on the morning of the event, ‘Cowboy’ had to pull out as he fell ill. Immediately, the promotion began looking to get the fight rebooked and the two will now meet at UFC Austin. For Lauzon, he says he still got paid for the canceled fight.

The outcome was a split decision victory for Shevchenko, sealing the deal on her status as the UFC women’s flyweight champion. It was to be her seventh consecutive title defense – setting the record for a female UFC fighter.
