Khamzat Chimaev’s coach, Andreas Michael, has provided some clarity behind his brutal weight miss. ‘The Wolf’ is fresh off his fight with Kevin Holland at UFC 279 on Saturday. Chimaev secured a dominant submission in the first round of their five-round co-main event. However, the Chechen was never supposed to fight ‘Trailblazer’ last weekend.

The UFC returned to Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday for UFC 279 which was a much different card than originally planned. In the main event, Nate Diaz ended up fighting Tony Ferguson after Khamzat Chimaev missed weight by 7.5lbs for his scrap against Diaz. The Swede was then dropped to the co-main event and was booked to face Kevin Holland.

The MMA world was shocked to learn on Sunday night that Canadian MMA fighter Elias Theodorou had died. He was just 34 years of age, and had been privately battling colon cancer. Theodorou, like many fight fans, became captivated by mixed martial arts after watching The Ultimate Fighter season 1 on Spike TV back in 2006. In 2011 he kicked off his professional MMA career on the Canadian circuit, fighting for Alberta’s Hard Knocks Fighting and Ontario’s Score Fighting Series. When Bellator rolled through Windsor, Ontario, Theodorou competed on the prelims.

Former UFC fighter Elias Theodorou dies at 34

Elias Theodorou has sadly passed away. The Canadian MMA fighter died after a battle with cancer, with multiple teammates and friends confirming the heartbreaking news to BJPENN.com and on social media. Theodorou won the ‘TUF: Nations’ middleweight tournament back in 2014 and was in the UFC until 2019.
