Miesha Tate forced out of slated UFC main event with Ketlen Vieira

Former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has been forced to withdraw from her slated UFC main event with Ketlen Vieira. Tate (19-7 MMA) and Vieira (11-2 MMA) were scheduled to clash in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 195 on October 16. However, according to a recent report from Sherdog, ‘Cupcake’ has been forced out of the contest after contracting Covid-19.

Miesha Tate has hit out at Conor McGregor for his Machine Gun Kelly altercation at the VMAs over the weekend. Tate has made no secret of the fact that she isn’t McGregor’s biggest fan with a string of complaints regarding his behaviour both in and outside of the Octagon across the last few years. More often than not there’s a solid reason why she’s making the remarks and this time around, she’s decided to pick up on Conor’s interaction with Machine Gun Kelly.

Miesha Tate clarified her previous remarks about her UFC fight purse, saying that “my camp was very expensive, but the results were great.” After having not fought for five years, Tate returned to the Octagon in July when she fought Marion Reneau. In what was one of Tate’s best performances of her MMA career, she finished Reneau in the third round via TKO. The victory earned Tate $200,000 for her purse, plus another $50,000 for “Performance of the Night.” However, “Cupcake” recently said that she has already spent 98% of what she made from her purse against Reneau.

Tate finished Reneau in the third round of their women’s 135lbs bout at last weekend’s UFC Vegas 31 card. For Tate, it was her comeback to MMA after a five-year layoff where she started a family, while for Reneau, she had announced before the fight that it would be the final walk of her MMA career. Following the loss, which was Reneau’s fifth straight defeat in the Octagon, she lived up to her word and left her gloves in the center of the Octagon.

The promotion matched her up against Reneau in her opponent’s final retirement fight. Fan favorite Jessica-Rose Clark offered to fight UFC Vegas 31 winner Miesha Tate in November, saying that “it would be an honor.” Tate defeated Marion Reneau via third-round TKO at UFC Vegas 31 on Saturday night in her return to the Octagon after five years away from the sport. By defeating Reneau, Tate will take her spot in the UFC women’s bantamweight top-15 rankings as she looks to get close to earning another title shot at champion Amanda Nunes. But in order to get back to the top of the division and potentially earn a title shot, Tate has to get past some of the other top contenders in the division, and one of them in Clark specifically wants this fight.

Tate returns after a nearly five-year layoff this Saturday night when she takes on Marion Reneau in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 31. Despite Tate taking so much time off, she returns to the UFC at age 34 and to a division that is in fresh need of fresh challengers for UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. Even though Tate hasn’t fought in forever and technically hasn’t won a fight since her upset win over Holly Holm at UFC 196 in March 2016, she is still confident that she has what it takes to wear UFC gold again.
