It was reported recently that the UFC is lining up a Poirier vs. Hooker main event showdown that is set to take place in San Diego, California on May 16. Both men are considered to be amongst the top contenders in the lightweight division, with both believing that they’re only a few wins away from a title shot.

Former UFC lightweight interim champion Dustin Poirier is expected to face the divisions surging contender, Dan Hooker in a 155-pound blockbuster showdown. According to  MMA Junkie, “The Diamond” is expected to fight Hooker in the main event of UFC San Diego on May 16th, but contracts are yet to be signed. The sources have requested anonymity due to the fact that the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

Dustin Poirier has hinted at his next fight on social media. Poirier has been campaigning for a scrap for weeks and now has taken to Twitter to hint at a possible main event fight against Dan Hooker. The Kiwi, of course, had stated that he would like to fight Poirier, if Justin Gaethje was not available.

If he doesn’t get his desired fight against Justin Gaethje, Dan Hooker has noted that he would be interested in a fight against Dustin Poirier. Hooker is coming off the back of a thrilling win over Paul Felder at UFC Auckland, and while the victory may have been seen as controversial by some who believed Felder should’ve gotten the nod, the fight itself served as undeniable proof that Hooker has the potential to do some big things at lightweight.

In the main event of UFC Auckland, Dan Hooker was taking on Paul Felder in a very crucial fight in the lightweight division. The winner would most likely get a top-5 opponent while the loser would be forced to fight someone down in the rankings next. In the end, it was Hooker who got the job done by split decision. It was a super competitive and close fight that resulted in both men being transported to the hospital.

Hooker and Felder went back-and-forth for the full 25 minutes in an absolute war that later sent both men to the hospital. It was an extremely close fight that ultimately went to the judges’ scorecards, where Hooker eeked out a razor-thin split decision.

Hooker and Felder went to war for 25 minutes in the headliner of UFC Auckland, with Hooker emerging as the winner via split decision in a close, back-and-forth battle that won “Fight of the Night.” Both men inflicted tons of punishment on each other during the fight so it’s not surprising each fighter was sent to the hospital after the bout as each man needed to be checked out for any potential injuries.

The UFC Auckland weigh-ins took place Friday morning and 24 fighters made weight for the card, including headliners Dan Hooker and Paul Felder. In the non-title lightweight main event, Hooker stepped on the scale at 156lbs while Felder came in at 155.5lbs, making the headlining fight official. Hooker and Felder are both ranked in the top-10 of the stacked UFC lightweight division and the winner of this fight will be one step closer to jumping into title contention.

UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje has rejected the idea of a fight against divisional rival Dan Hooker after the Kiwi star called him out. Gaethje (21-2) is coming off the back of a big win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone last month which served as his third straight first round knockout, bringing his UFC record to 4-2. Hooker (19-8), on the other hand, was able to dispatch of Al Iaquinta at UFC 243 with a comprehensive unanimous decision win.
