Early 2020 is going to be big for the UFC lightweight top-15, as champ Khabib Nurmagomedov defends against top contender Tony Ferguson, and Paul Felder and Dan Hooker collide in a high-stakes contender bout in New Zealand. While those two fights will have significant impact on the division, two other lightweights, Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone are also scheduled to meet in January, but their fight will be in the welterweight division.

According to UFC President Dana White, McGregor and Nurmagomedov will likely fight each other again thereafter if they win these upcoming challenges.

UFC president Dana White said in a radio interview on Thursday that superstar Conor McGregor is eyeing a fight against Jorge Masvidal next. McGregor was recently booked for his comeback fight against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on January 18 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported shortly afterward that McGregor’s plan is to fight either Masvidal or Nate Diaz next, and then get a rematch against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov near the next of 2020.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor plans to fight three times in 2020, according to a new report from ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. Helwani was recently a guest on ESPN SportsCenter and spoke about McGregor’s plans for his return to the Octagon in 2020. According to Helwani, McGregor wants to have three fights next year. The first of those is a welterweight bout at UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone, a fight the UFC officially confirmed this week. The other two are fights against either Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz, and then finally a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
