UFC 249 appears to be all but 100% confirmed to be taking place in Jacksonville, Florida in less than two weeks. It’s set to be one of the most stacked cards in recent memory, headlined by Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje for the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship.

Just a few days after UFC president Dana White made the card official, the world’s leading MMA promotion has released the poster for UFC 249. White has been trying for weeks now to put a show on for the fans, and while it didn’t look like he would be able to get his way, things are now looking up. After previous events scheduled for Brooklyn, New York, and Leemore, Calfornia fell through, UFC 249 was officially announced to take place on May 9 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The card will air live on ESPN+, with the main card on PPV.

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were slated to fight in the headliner of UFC 249 in Brooklyn on April 18. However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the event had to be rescheduled and a new venue had to be procured by the promotion.

The UFC was forced to postpone UFC 249 and all events moving forward due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they have their targeted return date. Dana White revealed to Brett Okamoto of ESPN the plan is to return on May 9 at a location to be announced. May 9, of course, was scheduled to be UFC 250. So, whether that will be the name of the event is unknown at this time. But, White revealed some matchups that will take place on the card like Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje, Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz, Amanda Nunes vs. Felicia Spencer and Francis Ngannou vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Ferguson was set to fight Justin Gaethje in the main event for the UFC interim lightweight belt, but that fight won’t be happening anytime soon now, and neither will the 11 other fights that were scheduled for the event.
