The UFC is in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday for a solid UFC 328 card that sees two title fights on the line, and in the co-main event, Joshua Van defends his flyweight title against Tatsuro Taira. Heading into the fight, Van is a +142 underdog while the challenger is a -186 favorite on FanDuel. Ahead of the bout at UFC 328, BJPENN.com reached out to several pro fighters to get their predictions for the flyweight title fight. The pros believe Van will pull off the upset and retain his flyweight title.

Manel Kape is intrigued by the flyweight title bout between Joshua Van and Tatsuro Taira, and he believes the champion will retain. The UFC 327 co-headliner will feature Van vs. Taira inside Kaseya Center in Miami on April 11. Kape was hoping to have his name called for the title fight, but he’ll instead have a rematch with his Rizin rival Kyoji Horiguchi on June 20.

The UFC returned to the Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday for UFC Vegas 98 in a battle of top-ranked flyweights between Brandon Royval and Tatsuro Taira. In the main event, top-ranked flyweight contender Brandon Royval took on Tatsuro Taira. Roval entered the bout coming off a decision win over Brandon Moreno while Taira beat Alex Perez by TKO due to an injury as he was 6-0 in the UFC.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 98 event, a 12-bout fight card headlined by Brandon Royval vs. Tatsuro Taira. The highly anticipated men’s flyweight headliner proved to be an absolutely thrilling back and forth affair. Brandon Royval got off to a dominant start in the opening five minutes fight, but Tatsuro Taira stormed back to smother ‘Raw Dawg’ for the duration of Round 2. The fighters seemingly traded rounds three and four, and thus the fifth and final round would decide a winner. Royval appeared to have more in the gas tank in the final five minutes, and nearly finished the fight with a late rear-naked choke attempt. However, Taira survived, and we went to the judges where Royval was awarded the split decision victory.

Perez (25-8 MMA) recently returned to the win column in emphatic fashion back in April, where he scored a sensational knockout victory over Matheus Nicola (see that here). That loss snapped a three-fight losing skid for the former flyweight title challenger, as Perez had previously suffered defeats at the hands of Deiveson Figueiredo, Alexandre Pantoja and Muhammad Mokaev.
