After suffering the first knockout loss of his career, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson will miss out on an opportunity to fight at UFC Greenville, a location he’s always wanted the UFC to visit, but now he’s got new goals set for his comeback. Speaking to media in Chicago during last weekend’s UFC 238 festivities, Thompson spoke about how he’d like to return in the fall of this year at Madison Square Garden and why he’d love to fight a “legend” in Nate Diaz.

In 2018, welterweight contenders Stephen Thompson and Darren Till battled for five tense and competitive rounds. At the end of their 25 minute meeting, England’s Till was named the winner via decision — though many fans disagreed with that verdict. At the time of their meeting, Thompson and Till stood out as two of the top contenders in the UFC welterweight division. Today, however, the pair are both riding brutal, one-punch knockout losses. Thompson came up short more recently, after absorbing a bomb from former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis. Till tasted defeated just before that, when he was thumped by Jorge Masvidal.

UFC Nashville was headlined by a pretty unique match-up, to say the least. The main event of the promotion’s return to the state of Tennessee saw former WEC and UFC lightweight champion, as well as former featherweight hopeful, Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis make his 170-pound welterweight debut. His opponent would be none other than the perennial top five contender, two-time welterweight title challenger, ‘Wonderboy,’ Stephen Thompson. Shockingly, after a pretty dominant showing from Thompson, Pettis would be the one to connect late in the second round to score the massive knockout win. It was the Karate specialist’s first time losing via knockout and Pettis’ first time winning via strikes since January 2013 when he TKO’d Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone with a body kick.
